I stayed at Gibela Backpackers for 3 days and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a good 20 min walk to the beach, and literally minutes from Florida road. The lodge is clean (the cleanest I've been to) and the owner is very friendly. He's also very knowledgeable and will give you a map with detailed instructions on where to go, where... More

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I will certainly come back. I loved the dormitory. I would recommend that there be some rules for keeping the room tidy, especially if one is sharing, as this promotes consideration for those who are tidy. I loved the breakfast, the pool and the security. The location is excellent.

Morning Karen Thank-you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay at Gibela Travellers Lodge. As far as "personal housekeeping" is concerned we take for granted that each individual is conscious enough to respect fellow "roomies" and keep their belongings and space neat and tidy. When it comes to communal areas, kitchen and bathroom facilities we... More

Many thanx for taking the time to review Gibela Backpackers Lodge. All the positives you mentioned cost a little extra to maintain and upkeep which is a reflection in the price. Our clientele is usually out exploring the various restaurants, bars, cafes and nighlife by 7.30 / 8.00pm, so no need to keep reception open if no-one is around. Through... More

Very nice hostel with nice people! The service is friendly and available for any question! Rooms and bathrooms are nice and there's also a kitchen where to cook own food. At 5 minutes walking from Florida Road, with a high choice of restaurants. We had a pleasure stay and we recommend it!

We stayed here for one night, lovely lovely hostel & the owner/manager was very friendly & helpful. It was a bit pricey but the facilities & accommodation were very good! Towels were included, shower area was very clean. Would recommend staying here.

If you stayed in December you would have been here in the high season when our pricing reflects the demand. I'm pleased to read that you did actually appreciate the extras we offer and that you found the facilities clean. Pity it was just for one night as I'm sure that you would have got more of a Gibela feel... More

Gibela B&B is located in a safe area of Durban with good resraurants nearby. The owner of Gibela B&B was very kind and helped us to plan our day trip. There is a nice Shop within the B&B were we bought hand crafted cristmas gifts from the locals.

Thanx for the kind words. Being a backpackers lodge, but referred to as an B&B is a real compliment. We assist where we can to arrange excursions and plan / book accommodation ahead. Now a days not many travellers actually ask for assistance as they try to sort themselves out by surfing the net. Quite often the locals actually know... More

Stayed two nights over the weekend, it was really quiet during my stay and the owner even gave me the weekday (and not the weekend) rate. Was struck by the effort the owner had put into the place relative to other backpackers by for example having shelves, a clothes rack and coat hangers in the dorm so that you can... More

You had the calm before the storm, as the holiday season was super busy. It is very pleasing to read that you appreciated all the extras on offer at Gibela Backpackers Lodge. Most travellers just take it for granted and don't actually attach a "price tag" to what it takes / cost to offer the extras. We take pride on... More

The Gibela Lodge is the perfect alternative to Tekweni Hostel, if you do not necessarely want to party every night. Nice, clean and quiet rooms and lovely outside area with swimmingpool where you can lie in the shade and surf the web. What else do you need! ;-)

We need more travellers like you. Kick back, relax and enjoy the pool area. Definitely not a party hostel here and all your positive remarks is what our guests are looking for. But then Florida road with endless restaurants, bars and cafes is just a short walk away. Happy travels !! More

After we saw all the good reviews and recommendations, we booked one night at Gibela and it was such a disappointment...The room was cosy, though not very quite, the staff seemed to be annoyed that we were even there, and the breakfast was literally the worst we had in whole South Africa, and we had quite few breakfasts...We were happy... Yet another one night wonder guest, who obviously didn't read or understand what previous reviewers wrote. I have said on multiple posts that Gibela and Durban is not a one night stopover. Especially if you have driven from Kruger Park (700km) and then heading of the next day to East London (600 km) totally exhausted from driving. A 2 hour... More

The lodge is very centrally located and the airport shuttle drops you right at the door. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The property itself is small, but spacious, neat, clean, quiet and welcoming. My flight out was after check out but reception kindly stored my luggage until I was ready to leave later in the day.
