My daughter and I stayed at this well situared bed and breakfast. The staff were friendly, the breakfast was good although more variety of the continental food would have been appreciated. The room was big and nicely decorated.

We have used this B&B before and we delighted that we could again. The two rooms we hired were lovely and gracious and had everything we needed. The breakfasts are delightful and served by the cook who is a lovely lady and has been working there for the owners for many years. The hosts are gracious and discreet. The accommodations... More

We stayed eight nights with John and Paddy and their fabulous staff at Essenwood House. For our family of five, (parents and three grown-up children) John booked us into the two rooms at the far end of the house from the car-park. As soon as we arrived from our nearly 24-trip from Lyon we were enchanted with the location, overlooking... More

I thought it would be helpful to everyone to clear up the 1 or 2 bad comments on here. John who owns the place is elderly and he is a bit old school. However his heart is the right place. He's not the most organised of men (I had to change room twice in 6 days and I booked a... More

Thank you so much for the very king things you had to say about your stay, Your booking mistakes were not due to my "old age' but a new booking system that went on the blink. happily we managed to fit you in and it was very good of you not to complain- which I am afraid some people seem... More

Great position as it is so close to everything and in a nice neighbourhood. Very comfortable bed and nice breakfast in excellent surroundings and lovely garden. Paddy and John were very helpful with restaurants etc. I will definitely stay here again when next visiting Durban. Bonus was England won the test match as well.

We spent four nights here in room 5 (I believe). From our shady, cool balcony we had a lovely view of the gardens and pool below and Durban and the Indian Ocean beyond. The room was large and comfortable with a huge bathroom and room-sized shower. I gather the place is quite family friendly as the pool was always full... More

Dear Paddy and John. We had a wonderful stay at Essenwood. The house and garden provided a perfect haven within the busy city. Your hospitality was perfect. We have already recommended you to friends who may have reason to visit Durban. We will definitely come again. Rob and Mary

On arrival this was slightly different to what I expected. It is as advertised a house and not a lodge per se. The staff are welcoming and the rooms are well thought out with loads of space. Attention to detail was noted with too many examples to note. Wifi was very good quality and the outside balcony had good views... More

My wife and I were most impressed with Essenwood House. We had an upper room with private access. The room had an incredible view of downtown Durban and looked out over a beautiful garden. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was quite large and included a bidet! Breakfast was wonderful! I highly recommend Essenwood!
