You fall in love with the views! Every room is ocean facing! The staff are a delight - real personalities who make each interaction a pleasure. Rooms are large, so lots of space. Location is very convenient for Durban and Umhlanga Rocks - secure onsite parking and close to motorways airport and other destinations. Plenty of restaurant choices next door... more

The location of this hotel is excellent, (opposite the main beach in town), excellent swimming area. Rooms are of a good size, clean, and the staff are friendly. I will return to this hotel. more

I stayed at this hotel for a week during a recent conference in Durban. Unlike the last reviewer, I found no problems with street noise, although I was on the 22nd floor which may have been inherently quieter. We stayed at the Southern Sun North Beach for a week in June. The hotel itself is very nice. One plus is that *all* the rooms face the ocean (not so with the Southern Sun Elangeni next door) and the lobby is elegant, with places to sit and drink a glass of sherry, port, or sangria which the staff puts... more

As I go to Durban on business every year, i return to the HIGC Durban - North Beach. I always recommend staying at the North end of the beach, rather than the more dodgy South Beach area.
