I can honestly say that the Durban Elephant, and its owner and staff, provide a really fabulous experience for guests. From the courteous, thoughtful service to the spacious, elegant rooms and surroundings and the very yummy breakfast spread, I felt completely taken care of and quickly began to adopt The Elephant as my new 'home away from home' (a process... Our family had a great time at the Durban Elephant. The house and location are beautiful and the owner (Howard) is truly the host with the most! The house has a tasteful eclectic and artsy decor, bohemian chic. The views of Durban's harbor and main beach are amazing and the gardens and pool a little paradise (too bad it was... More

Stayed in a clean, comfortable, and spacious upstair room with satellite TV, excellent wireless internet connectivity and a fabulous view of the harbor. Howard and the staff are thoughtful and friendly, and made me feel right at home. The place is particularly well-suited for researchers, academics, NGO workers and writers. Breakfast with Howard and the other guests, the library, and... More

It's a home from home in a beautiful 1901 colonial style house. The room I was in was more comfortable and better equipped than many 5 star hotel rooms that I have stayed in - combined with a fabulous view. Despite being 5 minutes by car from the City centre, it is completely tranquil with no noise. The rooms are... More

For business reasons I stayed for 2 weeks in Durban. Luckily I found this Bed & Breakfast. I had a very relaxed time at Durban Elephant and it felt like home. Very nice garden, nice small swimming pool and a large library with information of South Africa. Dingeman

Lovely location in an old house, set in beautiful garden with wonderful views overlooking Durban. The hosts are charming and helpful. I enjoyed the 'open house' atmosphere with the other guests at the breakfast table. Breakfast was made to order, and tasty. I was a little disappointed with my room, the comfort level was so somewhat lower than I usually... More

The Elephant is quite simply the best guest house I have ever stayed at. The hosts are two fantastic, charming and extremely hospitable Durbanites who know all there is to know about their city and country, and are happy to share it with you. The staff are top-notch and extremely respectful and provide exceptional service. The location is superb, close... More

The Durban Elephant is a gem. A large house, situated high on the Berea Ridge in a beautiful residential (and safe) area of Durban. There are nearby restaurants, cafes and grocery stores. The B&B has a pool, a large garden and is frequented by monkeys and all number of birds. Free WiFi and a delicious hot and cold breakfast are... More
