This place is so lovely, we won't forget our short stay. The rooms are nicely decorated and really clean and comfortable. Thanks to Christine who prepared a delightful dinner. We enjoyed the tour in Johannesburg and surroundings. These places are really interesting. Thanks to all of you for your kind attention and warmful welcome.

Wow. What a lovely hotel. My wife and I had wonderful stay here. The room was large and clean, the staff was courteous, and the food was delicious (the chef was very accommodating to our dietary needs). We also appreciated the thoughtful note and sparkling wine (to help us celebrate our honeymoon). We wish we could have stayed longer, and... More

The first night of our African adventure was spent at the very civilized African Rock Hotel in Johannesburg. Complete with a gracious staff, our brief stay was enhanced by a gourmet dinner and made-to-order breakfast. Very stylish architecture and furnishings. We found the library/lounge to be filled with interesting books and comfy furniture.

We stayed here for one night after landing at Jo'burg and before our flight to Kruger the next day. This hotel is in a lovely little neighborhood- perfectly safe enough to take a walk around. It's also apparently a short cab ride to a mall where we planned to get a fleece for my husband (who didn't believe me when... More

Welcoming, friendly and helpful. We had to suddenly change plans and they fitted us in and fed us quite late in the day. On our 2 nd stay we had an amazing meal of 5 courses and selected wines for £25/head. The chef presented the menu and really made an effort. Thoroughly recommend!

Wow!! What a delicious morsel of a hotel. WE have traveled the world and have not found a hotel as unique and as different as the Africa Rock Hotel. Never wanted to go to Jo'burg, let alone stay overnight. But this time we had to because of our combined trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Our travel agency, Gemsbokreizen from the Netherlands adviced us this place. And omg, what was I wrong all these years for not wanting to go to Jo'burg. First and absolutely because of this... More

We had to overnight 2 x in Johannesburg and we debated whether we should just go for ease and "known quality" and stay right at the airport or drive the 11 Km (20 - 30 Min) and stay at a smaller more discrete and intimate place - we choice African Rock and it was the best decision we made.
