The location is beautiful but the staff don't seem to know what is going on, the rooms are out dated and the beds are dirty. The most troubling of it all is when I found hair and sand in my bed and my pillow was full of what looked like make up stains. There are phones in the rooms with... More

My wife and I visited Aloe Ridge Hotel for a night not knowing a single thing about the hotel prior to arriving. We had a good time away and are grateful to the hotel for providing us with a place to rest. I tend to agree with Malaika492 on the points she raises in her review. Despite the many negatives,... From my wife and me undoubtedly the best value for money to experience what truly matters. True as close to raw nature as you will get for the price you pay. Leave Alex to be what we saw in him, a true passionate lover of nature who does not cage up animals for show on demand. No negative experience with... More

I was disappointed to see how the place have been neglected! The pool was empty and everything else closed! What a pity as it could be such a beautiful place if maintenance is kept up to date. The bedding was old and the spare duvet in the cupboard torn, the passages smelled horrible.....don't think the hotel is close to any... More

Aloe Ridge has the potential to be just amazing - it is close enough to Johannesburg for a weekend getaway, and has masses of wildlife and a beautiful deck, bar and gourmet restaurant overlooking the gorge. It is also quite reasonably priced. Unfortunately, one gets the impression that the rooms have not been updated since the early 90s - while... More

There is a total lack of organization from the owners side. When asking about the game drive, the staff said: Alex will let us know, which is anything between 11 am to 6 pm, no fixed times. It is poor, as not set times are the order of the day, and "Alex" decides whether he feels up to it or... More

We stayed here for 1 night mainly to go to The Observatory Restaurant. The state of the hotel is a cryin' shame, desperate for a complete overhaul, as the property it is on is awesome! Rooms are pretty basic, but were clean...and despite the terribly noisy plumbing were reasonably comfy. The Observatory Restaurant was a shambles. It was stiflingly hot... More

Thank you for an amazing experience! The staff were friendly! The food was amazing, and to top it off watching Alex with the wild life was breath taking! My family and I had a blast and most definitely will be using your accommodation on a regular basis! Thank you again!

Aloe Ridge is an old hotel just outside of Johannesburg set on abou 700 hectares of game reserve. It is little over 30 minutes drive from Randburg so very close for a quick getaway and in its heyday I can only imagine ho bus it was. Yes it could do with refurb but I like older and quieter hotels. The... More

Do not think I stayed at the same hotel as other people who reviewed it. I read other reviews after I had booked and was worried I had made a mistake. We however had a wonderful weekend. The food at both the Observatory and at Hedwigs was very good although the waiter and waitress we had were obviously learners. Staff are... More
