I too stayed here for the final Lions Test and had the power cut experience. What was really alarming was that rooms and corridors were pitch dark - i.e. no emergency lighting. Arrived to a 24 hour hour power cut to be guided along pitch black corridors by staff sharing torches. The Sunnyside Park Hotel, in Johannesburg is a nice old conference hotel, the breakfast buffet was very nice – I went down @ 7.45 and at 8.15 my bed was stripped, despite my bags and stuff still being in the room – so you can’t fault them on efficiency and there is no after breakfast snoozes for me! more

I love this hotel and the feel of it. The grounds are a lush oasis, the breakfast excellent. It's a great value. Most of the old sections is remodeled with a modern look. Though nice enough, a bit of an odd juxtaposition with the old world look. The new section's rooms are large and quite luxurious with a modern flair.... more

having mod cons like flat screen TV in your room is no use if there is no remote control .. even worse if it takes one hour for someone to respond ... air conditioner unit was broken ... wi-fi internet did not work in my room ... reception not really interested ... staff gave the impression that they did not... more
