I spent a week at the Sunnyside while conducting meetings at U Wits Health Sciences center. The hotel was recommended by a U Wits faculty member and the location for business at the medical center was terrific. However if you are conducting business elsewhere, the location may not be suitable. Walking is not an option, especially at night. The closest... more

I too stayed here for the final Lions Test and had the power cut experience. What was really alarming was that rooms and corridors were pitch dark - i.e. no emergency lighting. Had there been a fire on that Thursday night, it could have been a death trap and I am sending a very serious complaint to our tour operator... more

Arrived to a 24 hour hour power cut to be guided along pitch black corridors by staff sharing torches. No hot water for over a day, and no hot food even when the power was back on for the remaining 4 days we stayed here. Bar staff brilliant, but the front desk and transport people rip you off. You need... more

We stayed at the Sunnyside Park Hotel as part of the England Rugby Travel group on the recent British & Irish Lions Tour of South Africa. We arrived during a power cut, which was to last for nearly 24 hours. The contingency plan was non-existent with vast areas of the hotel, including stairwells and corridors without any lighting. When the... more

we stayed 3 nights in the hotel from 27-29 June 2009. Our room was in the 'old wing' no flat screen tvs etc just a poorly lit room, old furnishings and windows that rattled all night in the wind. Our first night we ate in the hotel dining room buffet. The food was cold, we refused to pay for the... more

The staff are very pleasant, accommodating and the ambience of the heritage site creates a wonderful home away from home. more

The Sunnyside Park Hotel, in Johannesburg is a nice old conference hotel, the breakfast buffet was very nice – I went down @ 7.45 and at 8.15 my bed was stripped, despite my bags and stuff still being in the room – so you can’t fault them on efficiency and there is no after breakfast snoozes for me! more

I love this hotel and the feel of it. The grounds are a lush oasis, the breakfast excellent. It's a great value. Most of the old sections is remodeled with a modern look. Though nice enough, a bit of an odd juxtaposition with the old world look. The new section's rooms are large and quite luxurious with a modern flair.... more

having mod cons like flat screen TV in your room is no use if there is no remote control .. even worse if it takes one hour for someone to respond ... air conditioner unit was broken ... wi-fi internet did not work in my room ... reception not really interested ... staff gave the impression that they did not... more
