I stayed at the Melrose Arch unfortunatelly only one night (arriving late, leaving early). The quite new hotel is located in a safe surounding with many shops, restaurants etc. Even you're in Joburg you can move freely, have outdoor dinner just outside the hotel... Spent one night at the Melrose Arch hotel on a stopover in Joburg. The hotel's design is very contemporary but with nice African touches. Melrose Arch Hotel is situated in a pleasant gated complex so it is safe to walk around outside the hotel. We stayed three nights and went on two guided tours, which gave us a good taste of Johannesburg. I've stayed here several times - it's definitely my favourite hotel in jo'burg. It's in a gated development on a square with several restaurants. It's a very contemporary hotel - great rooms. I've stayed at Melrose Arch a couple of times and definitely recommend it. I've been lucky enough to get poolside rooms on the ground floor both times -- thanks to upgrades from staff. Rooms are large, comfortable and clean. Checkin and door staff are great. Restaurant and bar staff are good. Travel staff is terrible. Pool could be cleaner, but... more

Stayed here recently and found it to be an interesting place with plenty of character, but something missing. Everything worked but you don't really feel like you are in Africa (the hotel and surrounds felt more like Brisbane to me!) and it isn't quite in the top end luxury space it thinks it is.
