I recommend the Birches Backpackers to any travellers visiting Johannesburg. The breakfast included was delicious and the accommodation was clean and comfortable. In addition the owner is friendly and helpful. He also has a Dalmatian called YumYum which adds a great homey feel. We stayed only two nights in this beautiful house, the night before and after our safari, but enjoyed it very much. The atmosphere is very good, the familylike kitchen is amazing, there is a nice lounge-area and a nice garden with swimmingpool and beds, thea and coffee for breakfast and the bathroom is huge and comfortable. It's not near some areas but no where in Joburg is. It's really close to a great minibus taxi stop, and very easy to get back to.
