I stayed in the guest house for couple of nights. Room is very very small and internet is barely accessible. Location is isolated and not at all safe. Owner did not give me the keys to the main gate and when my ordered food arrived. She did not open and it got spilled all around. My credit card transaction wasn't going through and I was trying all means. I called a friend for help. She was very rude all throughout and called police instead of giving me time. She could clearly see I am trying. Also, when asked for an email invoice and not a printed one, she clearly denied. I have not seen a more rude guest house keeper. I would never recommend someone to go for this place. Worst experience!

Response from Mendelssohn M, Owner at Mendelssohn Manor Guest House
Responded Sep 6, 2019
Karishma Walia , you also booked as Pryianka Abidja. Your booked with invalid credit card and I still accepted you. You stayed 2 nights and made mess purposely spilling oily Indian food in the parking , in the lounge, in your room . You were expecting a reaction from me so you can go without settling your bill. I was calm at all the time and treated you with utmost respect . You also went in other guests room to look for “something” . I gave you a printed invoice and a week or two latter you requested an electric copy of your invoice. I DiD sent it to your email address and this is the invoice you managed to copy and fabricate a false invoice for Pryianka Ahyga ( who was booking again on your fraudulent credit card) and never arrived ( a non show), but yet was “asking “us to open the gate when there was No one outside. I was never rude to you and no police was called ever . It is a shame what you did and to top-it up with a negative review is disgusting.

(More like 4.5) The hosts, Katya and her husband, were very gracious hosts. This is not to mention their accommodation of our request to be able to use the Sauna even though the space where it was located was under renovation. The dinner they served us from their sister restaurant was also very delicious, as was the coffee in the morning. Given that we visited during low season our expectations were, at first, not fully met, but the hosts showed great professionalism by attending to our requests and ensuring that we had a wonderful stay. We do look forward to returning to the place in the near future.

A fantastic guest house, for me it was home from home. Katya and her team were wonderfully accomodating, flexible and sincerely welcoming. The room was lovely, comfortable, quiet and had beautiful furniture addinga sense of luxury. Beautiful well maintained grounds, my only regret is my stay is drawing to an end. Would gladly recommend to any and all.

We were recommended Mendelssohn Manor by Milpark Hospital foreign patient liaison officer . My daughter was hospitalized in Milpark due to a car accident. The staff at Mendelssohn were all helpful and kind whilst we were going through our family crisis . My husband also had a broken heel bone . One of the drivers called Dimitri was very helpful driving us to orthopaedic equipment fitters to get a moon boot and crutches . There was even a wheelchair at the house which was at our disposal till my husband was able to properly use the crutches. The room was clean and had tea making facilities . The beds were comfortable and we used the reverse cycle air conditioning for heating at times as it was winter. Katya the owner and manager was very helpful. We were able to have our evening meal in the house as well as breakfast . Katya always had interesting meal suggestions like some Bulgarian specialities but could cater for individual guests requirements such as Chinese . All the house staff was helpful and friendly. There was reliable and free wifi. I would definitely stay again if we had to stay in Johannesburg again. Kathy Sydney

My wife was flown to Johannesburg by air ambulance and taken to Milpark Hospital. Needing a place to stay while she was being taken care of I called several guest houses in the area. It was late at night and Mendelssohn Manor was the only one that answered the phone. They said they had room and within 15 minutes they were at the hospital to get me. I was given a choice of rooms and all the rooms I saw were very nice. The next night the hospital called about 1AM and said I needed to be there. Transportation from Mendelssohn Manor was prompt and efficient. Unfortunately my wife passed away that night. The staff at Mendelssohn Manor was very supportive and helped me find the places I needed to go to take care of all the details. The drivers knew the places I needed to reach and were very helpful in finding and taking care of everything. The room was cleaned each day. Laundry was done. And meals prepared or ordered in if I so chose. The staff and owner were extremely sympathetic and kind and took care of me and later my daughters when they joined me. The grounds were kept very nicely and the setting was quiet and secure. I highly recommend Mendelssohn Manor as a place where you will be taken care of with much kindness.

Recently stayed here with family. We needed a base to visit Milpark hospital and Katya was brilliant. In addition to the safe, clean and spacious rooms the staff are all helpful and diligent. Katya also has drivers (Bobby and Dyan) with tracked cars so that you have peace of mind whilst travelling in a new City. I will stay here again and would recommend this as a great place to stay for anyone visiting Johannesburg and it's especially convenient and safe for anyone visiting Milpark. Sure I'll be back soon :)

We were the only guests for the two nights we stayed in August. We were made to feel welcome after our long overnight flight, even though we arrived a couple of hours early. Our room was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

Stayed here for three nights in March for a business trip. The owners were extremely friendly, especially Katya, who always made sure I was very well-fed! Rooms are very clean and comfortable with nice bathrooms and gorgeous fluffy white towels. The manor is in a good location and feels very safe. The owners also have drivers who made sure I got into the city on time each morning; and back again each evening.

I spent four weeks on my own and two additional weeks with my husband when he was finally discharged from nearby Milpark Hospital. Thank goodness for Katya, Simione, Maria and Daisy, the family who own the guest house, and the staff, who provided support along with the other benefits mentioned by previous reviewers: security, convenience, cleanliness, comfort, good food, awesome drivers, advice, companionship and a homey atmosphere which made our ordeal bearable. I felt like one of the family soon after arriving. This experience was immeasurably superior to the impersonal and lonely experience of being alone in a time of stress in a hotel.

I stayed at Mendelssohn Manor for approx. 2 weeks while my Mom received treatment at nearby Milpark Hospital. Katya, her family, staff and drivers were kind, respectful, accommodating and welcoming. The guest house was safe, comfortable and wifi connected. The rooms/linens/bathrooms were all clean and an on-site laundry service was available. Breakfast was included and lunch and dinner could be requested - all excellent. I didn't want for any amenities and, if I had, I'm sure Katya would have secured the same. The drivers were awesome! Highly recommended. Shelly H. - Cleveland, Ohio USA
