The hostel is a converted house, the guy who runs it has lived there all his life and it has been a hostel for 10+ years now so he knows what backpackers want and need. The hostel could do with a bit of renovation but its overall pretty good. I have heard nightmares of other hostels in Joberg and this... More

We could not have started our trip in South Africa in a better hostel. Right when you walk into Mbizi, you feel like you're at home. Pat, the owner, is incredibly helpful, whether you need a taxi or are planning your trip, he will help and give you great suggestions for the local area and all of South Africa. The... More

I stayed here for one night before I went to Sabi Sands. The hostel is located in a safe area, just outside Joburg. It has a swimming pool, which gives you some refreshment during hot summers. Breakfast is complementary, but isn't that much, just toast with jelly or butter. Owner definitely knows his way around. Next time I'm in Joburg... More

I've done a lot of traveling in a lot of places in a lot of hostels...and this place is top notch. We were picked up from the airport on time and arrived at the hostel where we met Patrick, the owner. Legend. He provided us with a ton of great info and really helped us out a few days later... The place is ok, but the dorms too exploited… too many beds. Breakfast is bad, only bread and margarine The place is far from everything The owner accepts not only backpackers but also local preachers starting making noise at 5 am There are better places in joburg!

The lodge is very cozy and made for a great couple nights as we arrived in Jo-Burg. My buddy and I felt very safe here. We were even able to leave our surfboard bag outside with no fear of theft and no issue at all. Patrick spent time with us talking through our travel plans. He was very helpful and... More

I stayed here two nights, once before my tour with Selous, and once during the 11-day tour (in between Kruger Park and our trip up to Victorica Falls). There is no security here. The front gate is never locked. We went on a tour of Soweto while there and we were returned by our guide after dark. Our guide locked... More

Met at the airport by friendly man who offers transport to hostel guests for reasonable charge. Hostel itself very clean, electric blankets on beds in winter (which you will be very grateful for!) free tea and coffee, wifi small charge. Lovely bar with sport showing on the big screen and cheap drinks. Patrick keen to offer advice to his guests,... More

This was where we stayed for our first night and Patrick helped us out with all our needs. The rooms and bathrooms are basic but the electric blanket on the cold South African nights were much appreciated. Great location for the airport as well. A good place to find your feet but renting a car is essential if you're staying... More

The place is lovely, nice communal area with loads of movies to watch. Fully stocked kitchen to use for cooking and complimentary tea, coffee and toast in the morning. Electric blankets keep you warm at night. Clean, hot showers and a beautiful big backyard. The owner of this place, Patrick, and his brother, Matthew, made our stay so enjoyable! We... More
