Staying at Heia is like walking into an episode of "Wild at Heart" (the TV series, not the mad Nic Cage movie). Gazelle, Zebra and Giraffe roam the grounds, and even a troop of monkeys made their way through in the morning. The food seems to come in for a lot of criticism - I would describe it as home... Although we did not overnight, we spent a full day at Heia. It is in a lovely setting with zebra and other animals roaming around. The zebras came and drunk from the pool which was a wonderful sight to see. They have a nice restuarant and a lovely bar and the staff were very friendly. I saw a lot of... More

A most enjoyable stay, the staff were friendly and helpful the breakfasts were excellent and the rondaval was clean and bed was made each day. it is not far from the main shopping centres and is a good retreat after a long day shopping. I've stayed at Heia for years and always leave feeling refreshed and cared for. Just 45 minutes from Joburg or Pretoria, it feels like you're hours away from busy city life in a far out game park. There is a wide variety of wild animals freely roaming the property, from zebra to giraffe and wildebeest. The bungalows a spacious and... More

We last visited heia 5 years ago on an anniversary. This time we took the kids just for an overnight on the way home. Nothing's changed. The accommodation needs an upgrade. We still had a spikey shower. The shower head sprayed in all directions and if you tried to increase the pressure it felt like pins on your body. For... More

I stayed on a working holiday at the Heia from 14th to 17th May'15. At first I felt isolated but quickly realised that I was sharing this beautiful planet earth with some of the most beautiful wild animals that befriended humans. Waking up in the morning to see animals like; giraffes, zebras, impala, wilder-beast, guinea-fouls amongst other wild animals at... More

We've stayed here before some years ago and stopped over for their Sunday buffet lunch. The food was tasty and the service was attentive. We took a short walk outside and enjoyed seeing the buck, Zebra and baby Giraffe. It was disappointing to hear they no longer offer the traditional Zulu dancing of years ago, but nice to see that... Had Sunday lunch here as recommended by friends. We weren't that impressed. We were advised (by said friends) to have the a la carte menu. There is a buffet table. I chose soup of the day - asparagus. It was thick and tasteless. Almost a bowl of cream with some soggy asparagus. Served with a 'kept warm' crust on the... More

Nice and quiet place ( except for the resident donkey! ;-P ) and if you're into mountain biking (I'm not) then it's a bliss. Lots of small game wandering around. Restaurant is good enough, staff friendly. Pleasant for a weekend outing.

I coordinated arrangements for a group of 95 Americans traveling to SA. From my first email interaction with Ruth to our goodbye hugs with Bianca and Gaby (owner), our experience was top notch. The property (giraffes, zebras at your window), the staff, the food - blew me away (and that is difficult to do!). We will be back next year!
