Previous comments are true, it probably was an amazing place but is run down now. We could not swim in the pool as there were more leaves than on the trees, you could not even see the bottom. Receptionist was nice, but rumours of hobits on the roof is true (it might be birds but they are verry noisy indeed.... More

I stayed in one of the top rooms- a constant noise on the roof of pigeons or something - and I see there were previous complaints about it and clearly nothing changed. Perhaps a new kettle will be good and a tv that is visible if you are in bed please. No options at the coffee - if I remember... More

I have stayed at this hotel on many occasions in the past and always found it extremely charming. I stayed there last night and found it run down. The bed was too short and I slept on the floor. The bath was dirty, the lighting bad and evert time anyone went to the toilet in the hotel it made a... More

The Hobbit Boutique Hotel is a place where you can feel the fantasy, have a taste of mystery and explore a feeling of the world that JRR Tolkien presented. There are many amazing rooms, the reception and welcome is warm and inviting, the surroundings which hold many secrets and the gardens that, if explored, open many ornamentations that feel like... We visited this hotel purely for the love we bear JRR Tolkien - and we were excited to see everything the website advertised, including small museum-like features about Tolkien and his past in South Africa. We strolled through the entire place, but only found a few shabby paperbacks written by tolkien, not even nice copies or rare books. Don't know... More

The whole city was fully booked when I arrived in Bloem... i searched TripAdvisor and found this Old Lady of a Hotel. Its a bit like Fawlty Towers. Old, not trendy. But very comfortable and super-friendly staff. The hotel is inspired by JRR Tolkien. So have a sense of humour when checking in...

We were breaking a trip in Bloemfontein and stayed at the Hobbit because I am a Tolkien nut. It was comfortable with lots of nice cute touches. The staff were helpful and friendly. We weren't there long enough to know if it was excellent but we have no complaints and liked the place a lot

We are a retired French couple from Canada (Montreal) and traveled South Africa during 2 months renting 31 different lodgings. This one was #23. This is a historic hotel with old rooms and shared areas. . The room we have was small compare to other rooms we saw in the hotel. Nice decoration, old style bathroom. AC, cable TV with... More

I loved staying at the Hobbit Hotel in Bloemfontein. The rooms are unique and cozy. You really get a feel of another world when you stay there. The rooms are big enough and has an en suite bathroom. The building dates from 1920 and has beautiful wooden floors. Each room is named after a character in JRR Tolkien's Hobbit and... More
