The whole city was fully booked when I arrived in Bloem... i searched TripAdvisor and found this Old Lady of a Hotel. Its a bit like Fawlty Towers. Old, not trendy. But very comfortable and super-friendly staff. The hotel is inspired by JRR Tolkien. So have a sense of humour when checking in...

We were breaking a trip in Bloemfontein and stayed at the Hobbit because I am a Tolkien nut. It was comfortable with lots of nice cute touches. The staff were helpful and friendly. We weren't there long enough to know if it was excellent but we have no complaints and liked the place a lot

This suite is in need of a major make over by Gordon Ramsey Hotel Nightmares .Pity to return for seconds time and to find establishment very run down.Guests with back problems void this room as the mattress has reached it sell pass date and not to mention the pillows.Sad it ended up like this as hospitably are great and close... We are a retired French couple from Canada (Montreal) and traveled South Africa during 2 months renting 31 different lodgings. This one was #23. This is a historic hotel with old rooms and shared areas. . The room we have was small compare to other rooms we saw in the hotel. Nice decoration, old style bathroom. AC, cable TV with... More

I loved staying at the Hobbit Hotel in Bloemfontein. The rooms are unique and cozy. You really get a feel of another world when you stay there. The rooms are big enough and has an en suite bathroom. The building dates from 1920 and has beautiful wooden floors. Each room is named after a character in JRR Tolkien's Hobbit and... More

My wife and I found this hotel on Hotel Express and stayed for one night on the way back to Johannesburg from East London. I prefer modern to antique, but my wife loved the place and it is interesting to note that most of the other guests while we were there were women. The "host" (an MBA student) was excellent;... Having stayed in a variety of guest houses and hotels in the last 3 weeks, this was the least enjoyable experience. Price-wise, it's the same as other guest houses that we stayed in that were in excellent condition. This was not. The room looked worn-out and was in need of a proper clean - it was dusty and there were... More

What a charming hotel! I would go back to bloem just to stay at the hobbit and eat at the new york! The lovely old school feel of the place is carried through in the decor, lovely archticture of this old converted house. If you love somthing different this is for you. The staff are great! Really friendly and helpful.... More

We had a single night stay here. The place is deligthful and atmospheric. All staff, including the charming owner could't do enough to please. The themed bedroom was very quaint, and the breakfast was delicious. Would definitely recommend.

The Hobbit hotel (Marketed as Boutique hotel) was recommended by friends who stayed there a couple of years ago. Afraid to say that the establishement needs a revamp. The check in was average, with little or information. the room allocated was spacious and obviously was once fantastic. the complimentary sherry was two thirds empty and the glasses dirty.
