Perfect getaway to the mountains. Newly renovated chalets are beautifully done with amazing views of the mountains. Excellent staff and food. Will definitely be back. The best part is very limited cell phone reception so one can really get away from it all!

We stayed for two nights on our way between Jo'Burg and Durban. My partner and I were a little dubious to begin with as the road through Phuthaditijhaba gets a little daunting towards the end and we thought we had taken a wrong term, but sure enough as the directions said the road ended and we were in amongst the... Thank you so much for the helpful review. It's great to know that the mountains worked their magic and you found out just what some many hikers over the years love about the area - a place to rest the mind and stretch the legs. We hope to welcome you back soon. More

My husband and I stayed in one of the upgraded chalets for 2 nights. We originally planned to stay only one night, but changed our vacation plans to stay an additional night at a fabulous place. This Lodge is nestled in the gorgeous Drakensburg Mountains, seated under Sentinel Peak. Our chalet was spacious, and had a perfect view of Sentinel... More

The lodge is very nice and located in a great place. The staff is helpful and charming. Enables you to be close to the drankensberg´s, to hike. The only handicap is food which is not really great. They should make an effort on improving that. But nevertheless, I would go back because of all the rest. Samson (guide) is really... More

Thank you for the detailed and useful review. It's so good to know that the surroundings drew you in to the point that you decided to stay longer. We share your observations about some of the finishes in the new units, and are working consistently with the State's contractors to remedy poor workmanship. We hope to welcome you back again... Athough this Lodge is being renovated and some of the facilities are quite antiquated, it is quite fairly priced and the location is fantastic for hiking in the mountains, and particularly, if you'd like to go walk the spectacular Sentinel. I'd imagine early autumn or late spring to be the best time to go. Winters too, but beware of low... More

We stayed in the new chalets with view to the amphitheater and the Sentinel. The chalet was very nice and clean. The only negative thing was that we stayed for tree nights and they did not change the towels even though we left them on the floor. The staff was friendly and welcoming, but no more than you would expect.... More

We visited Witsieshoek with our son so had a mixed agenda, We wanted relax and he was keen for some hiking. We achieved both. The Lodge was very welcoming and comfortable. We stayed in the old chalets which have been renovated and so suited us ideally. Enjoyed the meals and service over the three days we were there. Did some... More

I was in the area for a meeting and popped in for a cup of tea. The place is a bit dated but there are a few new chalets but that all falls away once you see the views. A rocky road leads up to Sentinal Peak but so worth it. The drive from Johannesburg is 3,5 hours. They have... More

Thank you for taking the trouble to write this review. As you would have seen, the Lodge is still be renovated, although the 8 chalets are are bright and fresh. You are quite right that the views are remarkable, and we look forward to welcoming you for an overnight stay to experience the quality of the new units. More

The location of the Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge is great but this is about the only positive thing to say about the lodge. When we booked our room, we were offered a "special price" due to the ongoing renovations. However, none of the bungalows have even seen a glimpse of renovation. Like the owners say on their homepage: "Batlokoa community-owners of... More

This is the only viable hotel to use as a starting point for a walk up to the Tugela Falls from the Sentinel Car Park without first doing a LONG drive. The new management have improved the place drastically over the last six months: the chalet structures are still old and a but dilapidated but are due for a major... More
