We really liked it there, huge rooms ( there were 3 of us so two bedrooms), huge bathroom connecting the two, seriously, this was almost as huge as my own flat. All very comfy, great shower, great bath, but, no room service nor a resturant except for breakfast. They also could not help us to order out so that was... More

The Windermere is a fine 9-bedroom B&B, centrally located in Port Elizabeth, accessible quickly and easily from the airport. It comprises a pair of old houses that has been converted and added to, to create an charming 5-star boutique "hotel", though it operates in fact as a bed-and-breakfast establishment. It has a pool, an attractive sheltered outdoor patio, a separate... More

A wonderful hotel. The property is beautiful, inviting and well serviced. I am surprised by the previous review. Caroline was so nice (as was everyone else at the hotel), really helpful and just lovely to deal with both via email in advance and in person. She really cares about the property and her guests. My room had a veranda and... More

As a registered PCO (Professional Conference Organiser), I sent an accommodation enquiry to the hotel requesting for a comprehensive quotation to send to my client (it was for a small group for one of SA's biggest Unions). I then received a one liner e mail from Caroline giving me a rate for their rooms. Subsequent to this, I called them... More

We were only here one night briefly before departing on the Garden Route but was our very first stop off in South Africa. Extremely comfortable with a massive room and bathroom. Would definitely recommend Windermere for travellers looking for something a little more boutique and intimate than the larger hotels.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 days while visiting family in Port Elizabeth. The room was well appointed - and we were very grateful for the heating in the bathroom. The carpets and curtains are a bit dated and in need to cleaning/replacing. The staff were really professional and helpful. Breakfast was very well done with good choice.... More

The interiors of this well located establishment are to die for...simple and elegant. The rooms are very large and spacious, with tasteful en-suite bathrooms. The staff were so helpful and couldn't do enough to ensure our stay was a delight- even greeting us with a big smile to open the doors for us at 3:30am in the morning after a... More

We stayed here for 3 nights in April at the end of our South Africa Trip. We requested a room suitable for families to be given a MASSIVE room with additional 2nd bedroom which was also huge, a seperate living room with TV. The main room had an additional sofa and another TV!!! The bathroom was again MASSIVE and our... More

This beautiful "hotel" really surprised me - especially being a regular business traveller. It is simple, modern and spacious. The service was excellent, I felt like the queen booking into a seven star hotel! This is not your traditional hotel experience with "plastic" coffee and Cremora in your room...fresh plunger coffee is brought to your room. Also close to the... More

This is a place to not miss- the best hotel we stayed at in South Africa(and by a fair distance). Great location, great staff and the most awesomest of rooms. We travelled on our honeymoon, took the deluxe room next to the pool-dont know if all the rooms are the same, but this one was pretty awesome. Huge rooms, massive... More

#5 Luxury Hotel in Port Elizabeth
Hotel Class
Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Windermere is a hip, stylish boutique 5 star hotel which brings the historic Indian Ocean port city of Port Elizabeth a new sense of style and occasion. Situated in the trendy beach suburb of Humewood, a short walk to Kings Beach and the "Blue Flag" status Humewood beach. Designed with elements of contemporary chic and decorated with custom made fittings and furniture, the defining feature of the hotel is the tranquil courtyard, cosseting one away from the busy outside world! The nine large luxury rooms provide spacious sitting areas, mini bars, satellite TV, DVD, air conditioning and heating, safes and a dedicated IT port (the entire hotel is also wireless compatible). Enjoy breakfast al fresco in the courtyard or indoors, a room service menu is available for light lunches and dinners, however most guests enjoy the luxury of choice – some of the city’s top beachfront restaurants are within walking distance! The Windermere has an ideal location – walking distance from beaches, restaurants and McArthur pools, close to Boardwalk complex, 4km to airport and 5 minutes away fro Humewood Golf Course (this historic course being the only true links course in S. Africa – the great Bobby Locke once remarked "that if the British opener had to b played outside of the British Isles –Humewood would be the ideal location!"). Apart from the many aquatic/marine activities (scuba diving, kite boarding, wind surfing, surfing, yachting, angling), there are various other activities available, all of which can be booked by the hotel, these include golf – city and township tours (Port Elizabeth was the landing place of the British settlers of 1820, as well as being at the crucible of the Anti Apartheid movement, so there are many significant historical sites), marine safari to the bird island group as well as day safaris to various game reserves including Addo, Schotia, Pumba, Kwantu & Amakhala (all within an easy 1 hr drive). Being close to the airport, The Windermere is the ideal starting or end point to the "Garden Route" and the ideal springboard to the Eastern Cape’s great game destinations. ... more   less
