It was all in all a nice stay! We enjoyed the evenings in the bars. It was also a great opportunity to meet other travellers. It was a pity that we could not use our room that we booked because, it was painted the day before. You should do this in your off-Peak season. Then they put us in a very... More

Hello Hauke I am getting to a point when I become fed up with guests blatantly lying when they leave an establishment. If you were unhappy with anything you could have contacted me at any time as there are notices to the effect in our reception, lounge and bar with my personal mobile number. I was also there for a... Wonderfully welcoming reception, felt home and welcome immediately. Would really recommend Amakaya to anyone looking for good affordable accommodation. We used Amakaya as a stop over on the way to our honeymoon destination.

We were delighted to arrive in this clean and lovely place. Everybody was nice and it was great to chat by the fire or enjoying the sunshine during the day. Our room was lovely, clean and comfortable.

A nice hostel, with nice common areas, especially the bar and the attached balcony! I would avoid the dormrooms, they are kind of small and smelly. The double rooms looked very nice however. Very friendly, chatty and helpfull staff.

Hello Hanne Thank you for doing a review of your stay with us. I am however concerned about your experience of the dorm being smelly and will check it to establish what the problem is. All our rooms are cleaned and aired after guests have left. Are you able to be more specific about the type of smell? I notice... More

Meant to stay for one night ended up staying for three. Staff are excellent, one of the dorms is a bit small but beds are comfy. Facilities are great, location is excellent, loads of activities to do in the area. Met some great people here, would definitely stay here again

Hello Stevie Glad to hear that Terry and Gerhardt took good care of you. It is a pity that Terry did not take you to collect Musses in the rock pools. That is a great experience. Glad that you enjoyed taking the 'cats' for a walk!. We like to use guest reviews as an opportunity to improve where we can... More

When I heard we were staying at a backpackers place I thought "oh no", but when I got there I thought "oh yes!". The rooms, braai at the pub, breakfast, everything were just perfect. I even felt safe with Skye there. Gerbrandt van Vuuren made us feel most welcome and he did not hesitate to help us finding places to... More

I stayed at Amakaya backpackers for a couple days in April and had a wonderful time. Gerhardt was very helpful and entertaining. He helped us set up all of our events in the Plettenburg Bay Area and everything went smoothly! I will definitely go back!
