You don't expect this from a backpacker! Better than some of the hotels I have visited. Great spacious room, very clean, fantastic clean kitchen, great location and wonderful staff. I am really impressed and really... you might as well stay here for far less money than in a hotel, B&B or whatever. This was fantastic value for money.

My friends and I, we were 9 people that stayed at one of the apartments of Amakaya. Great place to stay for the weekend. But not for relaxing. We went skydiving and bungee jumping. Also to the beach in Plettenbergbay, and to one of the bars nearby. You will never spend your whole day at Amakaya, because there's a lot... More

I'm a fairly well traveled prick. This facility I can say is of incomparably great value and staff has an amazing approach, the place has respect to itself and consequently to its guests, which is not self-obvious, which made my Plettenberg-Bay stay many times safer, cosier and more home-feeling than I actually wanted. From the early morning's delicious family-kitchen breakfast... More

Feel at home good staff good bar and perfect reception thank you OLivia and Donae and the bar men. Very close to the down town and the beach. We will come back soon. It is one place you can not miss out.

My wife and I stayed in Amakaya among many other backpackers during a two week road trip of the Garden Route. We were happy with the state of the facilities, but we did not feel welcome. The place is not as the name states...a home away from home. As a matter of fact we did not feel at home at... More

Hello Your experience is certainly not the way guests should be treated at Amakaya and is certainly not the norm as evidenced by most of our reviews. We do have some new staff that may be responsible, but this is not an excuse. Our bar is only permanently 'manned' after 6pm, however the reception staff will assist guests with any... More

At first glance Amakaya looks welcoming with their decor, free breakfast and "adventure center". However, we were quickly disappointed with the staffs poor knowledge of activities in the area e.g one of the receptionists abruptly answered us with a 'no' when we enquired about mountain biking routes. Knysna mtn biking routes were 18km away... There was nobody to assist us... More

Hello Elaine I am disappointed to hear about your experience with our staff. This is not acceptable. From what I can determine you stayed with us on 30 and 31 January. It is difficult to know who to reprimand without some sort of time frame as to when the incidents occurred. Shahieda and Alicia were working from 8am - 3pm.... More

Good vibes all round at Amakaya, facility, service and staff alike. E.mail communication was good prior to the visit and upon arrival met with the owner and various staff members, very convivial. Peaceful and really worth the stay.

although fully booked, staff helped us make our stay very comfortable. Very friendly warm and helpful staff. Staff also helped find good day trips and informed us about things to do in the area. Thank you

Hello Clinton Thanks for the good comments. It is always challenging when the place is full and very busy and it is good to know that the staff still managed to meet guests' expectations. Regards Dave Swart More

Good place very close to the main road with all the stores and restaurants. The owner is very kind and happy to help. We slept at the apartments which is not very far from the office but it felt that we were secluded and away from other backpackers. The building was very nice the pressure at the taps wasn't very... We booked the Outeniqua double en suite room, which sleeps 4 (the 5th person got a mattress to sleep on, which was ok). We stayed one night. The place is what I expected. Cosy, not great, but good enough. I wouldn't recommend it for people with high standards. The staff are friendly. Kyle at reception forgot to note that I paid... More

Hello Trizenia Thanks for your comments. I would appreciate it if you could let me have some specifics about what was not suitable. It is always difficult to please everyone. Some people give a 5/5 rating for the same facilities that others rate much lower. I guess it depends on whether you are used to hotel/guest houses or backpackers. We... More
