This is by far the best pub in Newport. Nice, tasteful decor, friendly service, good choice of drinks and excellent food. Unlike other pubs in Newport the locals are nice and not aggressive or abusive towards tourists. Every time we visit we always make a beeline for this pub. The best!

Myself, my husband and our dog called here for lunch. We ordered sandwiches as we only wanted a snack. The sandwiches were really good, served with a salad, and 2 small sides of potatoe salad and curried coleslaw, both homemade, and crisps. The staff were very friendly and efficient and while at first glance it seemed a little pricey for... More

A cosy pub with good food and high quality comfortable rooms. We stayed on the three nights for two bed and breakfast offer. The staff were friendly and helpful, we had a good sized double room. Tastefully furnished and well equipped, we liked the complimentary bottled water and good shower. The food could best be described as very good pub... More

Having eaten here before it just get's better and better. My parents were staying here and said the room as spotless and extremely comfortable. The dining room was buzzing, however the friendly waitresses attended to us with professionalism, and ran the clean restaurant exceptionally well. The food was fantastic, we had a selection of meals all cooked to perfection and... More

Just stayed for 3 days during the most horrible weather in February, The inn offers superb accomodation, way above what we expected for a Country Inn/Pub. From the begining the welcome was fantastic, the bar was buzzing and with the open fire in the corner it was cosy and homely. The food was varied of super quality (from local sources)... More

We have been coming to the Golden Lion for several years. We now feel like part of the furniture! We always get a very warm welcome. The rooms are much nicer than you would expect in a pub. The atmosphere is buzzing. As for the food - sourced locally and delcious. I particularly like the daily specials. This isn't just... More

Stopped here for lunch on a Monday - the Inn is very cosy and welcoming with a lovely fire. The whole menu was very tempting but we both had the Gourmet Burger. It was the best burger ever ! Cooked to perfection and every mouthful was full of flavour - perfectly seasoned ! I will most definitely be returning even... More

We were slightly confused as the pub hasent got a reception for guests. We walked into the main bar which was dark run down. There wasent... More
