After a week self-catering in a cottage in Newport we decided to eat out on the final night. We happened upon the The Castle Inn and were very glad we did - the food is fantastic and the service was great. Highly recommended to anyone in the area wanting to eat out.

Recently spent four very enjoyable days at thecastle inn Newport Pembrokeshire. This hotel/public house is ideally located in the center of the town and has an excellent car park situated directly behind the pub. The pub is owned and run by Nick andJulie Hartery who were excellent hosts, nothing was too much trouble. The food was super, well prepared, presented and... More

The service was excellent, staff were friendly and welcoming. Attractive use of lighting and mostly wooden decor create a warm and relaxing atmosphere. We all chose the same starter of scallops, black pudding and bacon which were fresh and beautifully presented. Our main courses, thai prawn curry, welsh lamb shank, black bream and gourmet burger were all attractively presented, extremely... More

My friends and I recently spent the week at a holiday cottage in Newport with our three dogs. We happened upon this pub on our first evening but chose to eat in another local restaurant, since The Castle were expecting a large party and we were tired from travelling and keen to eat and retire for the night. We returned... More

The room was fine, the breakfast excellent. We were made very welcome. But we were there on Saturday night and there was a live band, and some of the customers spent about an hour and a half singing in the bus shelter below our windows until the last bus arrived at about 1 a.m. Not sure if there are rooms... We visited for Monday lunch ,on our way to see the wonderful Pentre Ifan, nearby. The dogs, well behaved were happily allowed in the bar area whilst we eat the lovely belly pork and finished with a great apple pie with custard. It was great to sit and listen to all the local, friendly regulars, whilst we eat.

Nice selection of ales. Nice starters, nice wine, great lamb. Don't go for a steak if you like it cooked anything less well done than medium. Really dissapointing when the chef of apparently 40 years experience refuses to accept that a pink (second attempt) steak isn't rare. Won't be going back and leaves a bad impression of a lovely village.

We stayed for 1 night while walking the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. We had booked a twin but initially got a double but this was quickly rectified. The room was comfortable but with a strange shower at knee height and the single glazed windows made it VERY noisy. The food at dinner and breakfast was very good and the bar was... More

I've had two Sunday carvery lunches here. The service is efficient and friendly. The carvery in general is very good, reasonably priced with fresh veg. My complaint concerns the way they use spices. I've had red cabbage both times, once with star anise and once with cloves. Both times the whole spices were left in the cabbage which (especially in... More
