Those looking for an alternative to the dive tour group’s default choice [Manta Ray Hotel with sheetrock walls and carpeted floors] in Yap, Micronesia might give the Pathways Hotel a try. The property is a dozen tree house type cabins built amidst the dense foliage and into a steep hillside. One takes suspended pathways to get to the cabins. The... more

Yes, the folks at Pathways are very nice. But the rooms are not terribly clean or comfortable. The operation is definitely on the funky side. The neighborhood is noisy at times and the view of the harbor is not a great view. I have to admit that I was imagining an island paradise, and this was not it. I guess... more

While a little on the "rustic" side, you will not find a friendlier group of people than the family-run Pathways Hotel. It is one of three major hotels on YAP and caters more to the eco-traveler scene than the diving seen which the other two hotels seem to cater to a bit more. We actually went to YAP to see... more

Having the bungalows set up in the treed hillside made us feel like we were living in a tropical jungle. The people were so friendly and helpfull it felt like having your own family very close by. As a budget traveler, Pathways was over my target daily rate, but they have a small room located over the office at a budget rate that worked out perfectly for me. The room was basic but cute and the staff was very helpful, watchful and caring during my visit. It felt like staying with your own Yapese family. :-) My... more

The rooms at the Pathways Hotel are bungalows on stilts constructed in traditional Yapese fashion. Although the bathrooms are a bit dated, overall the rooms are super comfy and charming with balconies overlooking Chamorro Bay. We purchased the "Honeymoon Shack" package for $25 extra per night which included transfers, wine (a 10 year old, rancid chardonnay), flowers, daily breakfast, and... more

We arrived in the wee morning hours (everyone does) and passed out. When I went downstairs midday for a pot of coffee, there was an invitation to the Pathways Staff Xmas Party that night in our key box. A little apprehensive about intruding, but not wanting to insult their hospitality, we stopped in "for a few minutes". A feast of... more

Pathways should be your choice if you want a true Yap experience. It's owned and completely operated by Yaps. It's clean, comfortable, convenient, and offers a true Yap environment. The staff is friendly and accommodating, A variety of activities are available, including dives, snorkeling, cultural dance performances and village visits. The restaurant is excellent. I've stayed in other Yap hotels.... more

A beautiful setting run by a warm, knowledgable, local family. Very comfortable rooms all with great views, patios, and A/C. Fantastic lushness adds abundant flowers and birdlife to the steep grounds. Rooms are accessed by a series of "Paths" that give the feel of heading up into your own private treehouse. Small restaurant on the premises that serves great meals.... more
