We stay in a king suite, had a nice bath with a shower over the bath. Would be nice to have a nice relaxing bath in. Room was warm and had a great heater. Basic tea and coffee, no fridge however. Had room service and a bar/resturat and gaming attached.

This is an old hotel - the decor looks like it is a kindergarten - an attempt to modernize it with modern cubist decor does not work - it is a pity it was not painted to show off the original internal architecture. - the beds were very comfortable and warm - I had a balcony room - when I... More

Greetings Shirley B There is a lot of assumptions about how grand The Grosvenor used to be. I think this is the time that I have put the record straight. When we took over the hotel ten years ago, the carpet was actually a combination of neon green colour and bright apricot. There was a lot of fake fibre glass... More

Our room was good, no problems at all. It was clean and tidy. Only two problems we had was at about 8am there was lots of banging through the wall of the room beside us. There were workmen in there doing tradies stuff. So i tapped on the wall. Tap tap tap. Tradie tapped back Tap tap tap. So i... More

Greetings Delboy We are intrigued with your comment about our tradespeople working on the room in the morning. We have a policy that renovation is only to be carried out AFTER check-out time. We understood the importance of a restful sleep of our guests and so, we wouldn't compromise our goodwill. As you wrote yourself, our room is tidy and... More

I need to say I had higher expectations. The hotel is in a dark back street where I didn't feel very comfortable on my own arriving after dark. Though it is very central and you can walk to the shops, though most are closed on Sunday - so avoid arrivals on Sunday. The room and bathroom was ok. I am... More

Greetings Anja Thank you for taking the time to write a review for The Grosvenor. Please be mindful that during your visit, we are heading towards winter and the sun sets early. When you have two tall buildings on both sides of the road, naturally, you would be covered by shadow. In big cities, this wouldn't pose to be an... More

I came across this online and I am glad I booked this brilliant hotel. It is a HOMA (home of modern art). It has some brilliant paintings (front porch and stairwell are a hoot). The staff were accommodating when my husband needed fresh milk with his cuppa. The rooms were adequate for our needs, had everything including a lovely bath.... More

Greetings Baby52 Thank you wholeheartedly for such a delightful review. We can see that you are an art enthusiast. At the moment, I am in Los Angeles discussing with prominent street artists to provide art concepts to the continual renovation and art projects of The Grosvenor. I shall convey your kind words to all staff, to let them know that... More

This hotel located at corner lot of the street, not so easy to find. And the main street is one way lane from the right hand side of the hotel. If you come from the right way, the hotel is on your left side end corner lot. You can park your vehicle right opposite the hotel parking space very convenient.... More

Greetings Sam K Thank you for your review. The road layout may be confusing for some people and we can only make do with what we are provided. The lift in our hotel is arguably one of the oldest lift in the whole of New Zealand. It does have its own temperament. Being a historical hotel, this lift may be... More

We wanted to experience a bit of history. The rooms that have been refurbished were modern, large and comfortable. The only problem was the noise from the trains all night. One cooked breakfast was enough for 2 of us. It was a convenient walk to the Caroline Bay area. Be sure to go see the penguins come in from the... More

Greetings Nancy Thank you for spilling the beans about being able to see penguins in Timaru. A lot of tourists always thought that Oamaru is the only place to see penguins. The reason why Tourist Agency is not willing to publicise the fact is due to the lack of infrastructure to house the tourists. However, if you are looking for... More

Beautiful hotel, but the rooms are very minimalist ie: no chair to sit on. Room service forgot to deliver main meal to room (when due back late, and meal had been preordered). Cleaning of room needs to be alot better. Will not return. Staff too eager to finish shift and go home.

Greetings Isuzuchic Please contact our email address directly regarding addressing the meal that was never delivered to you. I can assure you that our staff isn't hurried at all. Customer satisfaction is everything to us and unless all matters are attended to, staff wouldn't leave in a hurry. Our Front Office manager has gone through our system checking for any... More

We had booked a total of four rooms, so it was a bit disappointing to find that they didn't have our booking quite right when we arrived. Nevertheless, the small problem was sorted out quickly. The hotel was very old, oozing history. The super-old lift, though, could probably do with some modernisation. It kept jamming, and I would often have... More

Greetings Jeanne First of all, sorry for the mixed up with bookings. As you said yourself, we had that sorted out for you without further ado. Our Front Office staff has just changed and we are in between process of having the new ones trained up. Therefore, things such as this happened from time to time. As for the lift,... More

We stayed at the Grosvenor for 3 nights with a Car Club over Easter 2015. We have to stay that everyone was impressed with the rooms, food and helpfulness of the staff. Absolutely excellent. Our cars were parked in the car park across the road with no issues. Total cars were 21 with 40 odd staying and attending the function.... More

Greetings Kelvin Thank you for your kind words. That meant the world to us. I wish I could have been here to see the Ford entourage that you brought to our neck of woods. Do come again in the future. Best regards Ping LIM (The Proprietor) More
