I was surprised by the negative comments I read after we had checked in. We found the motel very comfortable and the beds were lovely. Yes we heard a few trains in the night but it didn't worry us. The owners were very pleasant to us and we had a lovely view over Caroline Bay.

Basic comfort of a 1960 style decor. Clean and tidy. Price high for what was offered in terms of being up to date and fresh. Room was 4 metres from the main trunk train line. No warning re this so frightened me in the middle of the night when first train rumbled by. Great views & owner friendly but needs... More

I booked a place in Timaru and did it with care because it was my 3rd anniversary and wanted a really special place. I chose Baywatch even though it was more expensive than the other places because the reviews that I read said beautiful views and the pictures looked real nice. We arrived around 4:30pm and I paid in full... More

The good things about this place is the location, the view (if you have a bay view room) and the fact that it's clean. The not quite so good things - the ancient heater that is very noisy, the shower which has no cubicle, so that the bathroom floor becomes awash with water (the shower curtains don't reach the floor)... Thought I'd take this room...by myself ...thought I might have a spa...but ran out of time. Friendly owner / staff. Great views of Caroline Bay etc, very clean, tidy, slightly dated, a light switch behind the curtain that took me ages to find to turn a light out (the heater and lights were on when I arrived). I was surprised... More

This hotel was very central. There is a train line runs by it, but we heard one train. We walked down to the harbour at night to see the Blue Penguins (smallest in the world) NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY) You have to look very closely as they are hard to spot but the lights from the harbour do help. This hotel... More

We had a room facing the bay, which was great. The decor was a bit dated, but on the whole the unit was well equipped with a microwave, mini bar fridge and coffee/tea making items. There was even an iron and ironing board tucked away in the cupboard, which was useful. The spa bath was great and worked well, but... More

Needed a room just to crash for a night. Found many along the main highway, thought it would be easier when we decided to take off the next day, so we pulled into the first vacancy signed one. Didn't need a view room and didn't want to pay the price for a view room, so he put us in one... More

Looks nice and the rooms are reasonable. Clean and tidy. does not need the tacky plastic flowers everywhere or the dirty bath duck. Bed was not comfortable, pillows were good. The main problem was the road noise on one side and the railway line about 10meters from the deck! We had four trains during the night and they felt like... More

When we checked in we could not understand why this motel was so lowly rated on Trip Advisor. We had a great room at the back overlooking the beach although it was quite a long way away and on the other side of a pretty quiet railway line. As the evening went on we realised many of the residents who... More
