I joined trip advisor just to write this review. We stayed here in the new year and lets just say it was an experience I don't care to repeat. The rooms whilst relatively clean we a hodge podge of mixed styles and very dated decor. What struck me was the mix of permanent residents and back packers with overnight motel... More

Me and wife were looking for a place to stay overnight and decided to stay here as the last option as all other places in Orewa were either booked out or over priced. The guy at reception was nice as he showed around three type of rooms. we went for a $95 room which was good to be honest. Positives:... More

My wife and I discovered Pillows Backpackers after a tough week on the Te Araroa Trail. It could not have been at a more appropriate time. My feet were blistered and raw, and I was in need of some TLC. Pillows answered the call. Not only was the facility spotless, it was tastefully appointed . In fact, it was was... More

This is perhaps one of the most dysfunctional places I have ever had the misfortune to visit. It is not a conventional motel but a hybrid back-packers with single rooms. The owner is what can only be best described as a dragon in all senses of the world, her constant yelling and screaming at her staff (volunteers from HelpX as... More

Service very average. After a short stay here, it appeared that everything was out of place. IE, no continuity between rooms etc. It all looked rather odd and old. I did some googling and found them on trademe, it would appear that everything is second hand from cheap auctions including an old worn out looking mattress that was bought for... More

this place is probably the only one I could afford in Orewa as a backpacker so I'm not complaining. I find most other Orewa motels seem on the medium to high end in terms of price. The reception guy was a nice person who showed me around after check-in and gave me a map of Orewa to explore. The beach... More

Not a very exciting and warm welcome at all. I felt a stranger since the first moment. Although the man running the place gave me the required information and was honest. Rooms, beds and furniture are extremely old and not well looked after. It is true that the price is not expensive, but in any other town in New Zealand... More

We ended up taking an unplanned stopover in Orewa and stopped in here because it was in the guidebook, not because it looked so great from the outside (it doesn't). We had a friendly reception (closes at 8pm), and were shown through a pleasant courtyard garden to our room, which was basic but had all we needed. Showers were good,... More

We ended up here whilst heading north out of Auckland without any particular plan, during a week of awful weather. The guy was friendly enough when we checked in, then we passed through the quaint little courtyard to our cosy, simple room. Nice kitchen with all you need, a TV room, and comfy lounge (with piano!) to relax. If you... More
