Stayed one night - the kitchen is well equipped, walking distance to shops - maybe 1km. The rooms are small but comfy beds and block out curtains. Has a laundry which is great & lots of seating for the weary traveler. The lounge room has a nice feel to it and is cosy with books & DVD's available and even... More

Stayed at Pillows for one week. It is a wonderful lodge with really clean rooms and facilities. Mike und Susan (the owners) and the staff are really nice and friendly. The lodge is just 50 meters from the beach and you can hear the waves from the lovely garden. Thank you for this amazing week. Felix

Great location, across the road from the beach. Five minute walk from town. Very friendly helpful owners, and thoughtful facilities. Great base to relax. Came for a night, stayed for a week and would have stayed longer if I hadn't had to fly back to the uk. Recommended!

This is the only "backpackers" place in town. Marco poli does not exist any more. We came in and the guy from the reception showed us the most expensive (95$) double room and the dorm (30$) for 6 and you feel like a sardine in that room it its just to cramped. When we came back the dad helped us... More

I would not let my dog stay at Pillows. I stayed there several years ago and it was quite nice - clean and comfortable, acceptable. Our stay there in January 2015 was terrible. They had crowded a 'cot' (and I am being generous) in along with a double (which was supposed to be a queen) bed. There wasn't room to... More

We have stayed one night at the place for $88 dollar. Well the room was dusty and the coffee cups are dirty. The room was small with everything's packed. A good stopover and not for a long term stay. Well owners not bad but the space is limited .

We spent our first night in New Zealand here as it is only 40 minutes drive from the Auckland airport and conveniently located along the way up to the Northland area. We got in at around midnight and no one was available at the reception even though we informed them about our late arrival beforehand. We spent 20 minutes calling... More

I joined trip advisor just to write this review. We stayed here in the new year and lets just say it was an experience I don't care to repeat. The rooms whilst relatively clean we a hodge podge of mixed styles and very dated decor. What struck me was the mix of permanent residents and back packers with overnight motel... More

Me and wife were looking for a place to stay overnight and decided to stay here as the last option as all other places in Orewa were either booked out or over priced. The guy at reception was nice as he showed around three type of rooms. we went for a $95 room which was good to be honest. Positives:... More

My wife and I discovered Pillows Backpackers after a tough week on the Te Araroa Trail. It could not have been at a more appropriate time. My feet were blistered and raw, and I was in need of some TLC. Pillows answered the call. Not only was the facility spotless, it was tastefully appointed . In fact, it was was... More
