Overall however, the room was fine. The room safe was not working when we arrived, the desk clerk tried to fix it, however was not able to do so. My husband finally fixed the safe. The room had two beds in it; a queen and a twin, which took up most of the room. The internet was so slow and... More

Lovely place! Everything is done in wood which I found a bit overwhelming but they are going for mountain resort charm. The hallways are a bit scary between the smell of laquer on the wood and the very very dim lighting. Our eyes are not so good these days and we could barely make our way down the hall! The... More

Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Booked all our activities around like the crossing, flying and transport Great restaurant and swimming pool at 36oC too Clean and spacious cosy room but you can hear the train going through the bridge every 2h :( so you need not to be too much of a light sleeper. Last breakfast made of toast... More

Location: Located at the south side of Tongariro National Park, about 40 minutes from the starting point of the hike. We drove here from Rotorua and it took us about 2.5 hours. The hotel itself was easy to find about 1-2 kms off of the town’s main street. Rooms: We had booked a studio room and requested to be located... More

We enjoyed a very comfortable stay here. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable, with a fantastic shower. The location is excellent - this is the closest spot there is to the Turoa road up Ruapahu. The main appeal is for skiing in winter, but in summer there are also excellent short walks off the road (some of... More

We stayed here in December so off-season for skiing and apart from the hotel the Ohakune city is a ghost town. Most of the restaurants and shops are closed for the season. Our room was very nice with lots of wood and even a private in room hotspa. Excellent bedding. Staff was very friendly. We had dinner in their restaurant... More

Our stay at the Powderhorn Chateau was perfect. The staff was not only warm and welcoming, but even when incredibly busy they did not hesitate to make sure we were well taken care of from taking our food and drink order at both of their restaurants to ensuring we had all the information we needed for our mountain biking trip... So glad we stayed here to do the Tongariro Crossing. Such a welcoming, comfortable place to return to after a mighty 7-hour hike. We stayed for 3 nights and felt fully rejuvenated when we left. The bed was hugh and super comfy, we had a spa bath-tub in our room which really helped those achy legs and every meal we... More

We came for a weekend adventure and enjoyed the Hotel Room and Pool. We were looking forward to the restaurant but the Front line staff let us down , they said we would have a half hour wait for a table and after one and a half hours still no table. I found the Male Teller on duty to be... More

We are very pleased you enjoyed our hotel and swimming pool. The Powderkeg is a very popular destination for dinner. In order to accommodate as many guests as possible we work on a first in, first seated basis. This does apply to the restaurant tables only. It is possible to dine in the many area of the bar and couch... More

What an incredible weekend… I don't usually write reviews but after checking the place out on Tripadvisor I figured I should reciprocate the reviews we read earlier. There is nothing better than having a challenging and fun day in the Central Plateau mountains followed by an evening in a great restaurant and comfortable bed. We finished the epic Tongariro Crossing... More
