We chose to visit Ohakune off-season. Although quiet, the service was excellent and attentive. The food in the restaurant is high quality and worth a night in the hotel restaurant. Located away from the centre of the town, and close to local bush walks that which provide a nice alternative to the ski fields.

We stayed here for 1 night and had a spacious chalet style timbered room with a nice view and was peacefully quiet. The bathroom was huge and had a spa bath. The only downside was the bed was a standard (small) double and quite squidgy. The upside of the room was that we could sleep with the windows open. The... More

We had a great weekend at this Hotel. We had booked 30 rooms out of the 32 so the staff had to be on the ball, and they where. The staff are a very friendly bunch and the bar manager was a hoot. Rooms where very clean and heard no complaints from any of our gang. Showers where fantastic, large,... More

Had a fantastic stay here on a GrabOne deal. The staff were so helpful and even picked us up from the bus stop in town so we didn't have to carry our luggage. Loved the pool area, and the bathtub in the room was great for bubble baths. Also, the breakfast is delicious!

This is a beautiful classic hotel, with all wood construction, but updated with modern amenities. One thing this hotel has, which few others in the world can boast - the LotR movies cast stayed here! You can stay in the same room as one of the cast members (Orlando Bloom for us, to the delight of my daughter!). They have... More

A beautiful and comfortable place in Ohakune which is quite close to the Ski resorts of Mt. Ruapeho. My husband and I even saw a Morepork Owl in daylight perched on one of the trees by the parking area! Did you know that Sean Astin (Samwise Gamgee of the Lord of the Rings) also stayed here many years ago? We... More

After a busy trip all over New Zealand visiting friends and family I took a few days to stop in Ohakune to go on a few walks in the area. Wow, the Powderhorn is stunning! The hotel was charming and very comfortable. The staff were all friendly and the food at the Powderkeg was simply delicious along with the breakfast... More

I have stayed here twice. Once during Ski Season and once randomly through at the end of the year. This is a beautiful log cabin hotel. It has a such a neat feel about it. It also has a heated pool underneath! Powederhorn also has AMAZING food on site at their Powderkeg restaurant. They provide really good service. I don't... More

This hotel is a little slice of european ski chalet in a sleepy town, although we hear it heats up in winter. It was a shame that nothing else was open at this end of town but we did love the peace and quiet and the Powderkeg restaurant was great at night and the restaurant upstairs for breakfast was quite... Of all of the Hotels I’ve stayed in during my recent trip to New Zealand, the Powderhorn is the only one I wouldn’t call overpriced. From its friendly staff to its convenient restaurant and bar, the place is certainly welcoming. The building, built with local timber, is incredible. It also has a very warm indoor pool, which was a blessing... More
