The decoration of the hotel is awesome as well as the amenities. The negative side is that the isolation is very bad. Fortunately I was on the third and last floor so I didn't have to bear the noise of my upper neighbours but unfortunately my closest neighbours awoke at 6am and I had the feeling that we were sharing... Beautiful swiss chateau style lodge in Ohakune. Very comfortable bed and nice rooms, especially the comfy sofa. Ate dinner at the Powder keg bar/restaurant. Great meal and well looked after by attentive and friendly staff. Front desk staff were awesome too - very good quality service, helpful and friendly. Breakfast in the Matterhorn bar was standard, and the conference rooms were... More

I was here only for one night but it was such a lovely visit. The room was spacious and beautiful and clean. The staff very friendly and helpful. The Powderkeg had some delicious meal and breakfast options. Unfortunately I didn't have time to test the pool but hopefully the next time then. Also, if you're a LOTR fan be sure... More

Enjoyed our two nights here enormously. The room was clean and well-appointed. Big bathroom and the bed was so comfortable. Air-conditioning in the middle of a hot summer - bliss. The indoor pool is a treat, especially combined with the ability to order drinks from the bar brought to you. The staff were wonderful, pleasant, helpful and professional. I can't... More

We stayed here for two nights. A lovely building, built in traditional Swiss Chalet style. Because it is wood, the rooms are dark and noise travels. We would imagine that it is a very lively place during the ski season. We ate in the Powderkeg bar , part of the hotel and service and food was good. The staff were... More

Traditionally a winter chateau I was surprised how much I loved my short summer break at the Powderhorn. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The rooms are well appointed with the best shower I've had in years. The indoor heated pool was an unexpected treat. The Powderkeg restaurant menu was spot on with a tempting selection. shame I was there for... More

I went Jan 2015 as part of a tour round NZ, so for this place it was out of season (normally a ski area). That didn't phase me, the ambiance was still great. SPECIAL NOTE: If you happen to be given a room that was stayed in by one of the cast from LOTR, you can purchase a certificate &... More

Well, from the review from the person above wrote he left out some key information. Yes there was loud music playing during early hours of the morning and yes it was out of the control of the hotel. The poor receptionist who was so very sorry, didn't stop this person from having a go at her saying all things about... More

We stayed here two nights as we explored the Tongariro crossing. The fitst nigh we were given two rooms facing town. While they had balconies there was no view. The other side has a view of the river. At 12:20 AM I was awakened by a very loud playing of music, which continued until 01:30. Upon mentioning this the next... More
