We have been coming to the Powderhorn for some years now and without fail I LOVE this place. If you are yearning for an actual alpine experience in the Mt Ruapehu ski district this is the place to come to. The lushious wooden log cabin construction, the leather seats, the attention to detail , always a gorgeous central fire in... More

This hotel was what you pay for. The room was clean and bathroom was stocked with supplies. Staff were super helpful and nice. The powderhorn bar was average, very cramped in there and you don't get much rye fillet fir the price, you get an overload of mash potato instead. Deserts were nice though. There's a swimming pool which us... More

Stayed here for three nights after getting off the Northern Explorer from Wellington (the station being only about 100 metres away - an excellent and romantic way to travel to this hotel by the way). We had an excellent stay. Despite warnings about the possibility of noise issues because of the wooden construction, we really had no issues, despite the... More

We stayed for three nights at the beautiful Powderhorn Chateau in Ohakune. The building is amazing to look at, with rich wood everywhere. Reception was very friendly and efficient. We didn't even need to say who we were when we arrived (I suspect we were the only guests to book in on the Wednesday before a long weekend). Service throughout... More

Stayed here on my first sky trip... it was great... the best part was the hot pull downstairs after a day of skying.... it was awesome.... The bar was cozy and the food was really great... good portions as we were hungry.

We loved everything about the Powderhorn Chateau. It is a hotel with heaps of character and staff focused on superior customer service. Our room was spacious and comfortable and had a pleasant outlook. Dining either in the Matterhorn or Powderkeg Restaurants provided a wonderful choice of quality fare. Breakfast was a delightful feast. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful... More

Large rooms, clean, good service. Stayed when trying to complete the tongariro crossing but unfortunately couldn't cross due to poor weather - hotel was provided good information and directions. Also enjoyed the powder keg - large, great food, good selection of local beer and wine, and good apres skier ambience (even in summer).

We stayed at the Powderhorn for two nights in order to do the Tongariro Crossing. We got an amazing Grabone deal for transfers to the walk and breakfast both days that worked out about half price. I would say this hotel is definitely worth full price and I would have rated it 5 stars at full price to. It's a... More

We were at this hotel in Autumn time when it was virtually deserted - made for an experience. The hotel is all wood and like an alpine ski lodge. It has a lot of character...so much so that my wife thought it would be a great place to make a horror movie! The highlight is the pool - it is... More

Overall however, the room was fine. The room safe was not working when we arrived, the desk clerk tried to fix it, however was not able to do so. My husband finally fixed the safe. The room had two beds in it; a queen and a twin, which took up most of the room. The internet was so slow and... More
