Of all of the hotels/lodges we have stayed in around the world this is the only one where my wife had nothing to complain about ! We stayed in one of the cottages/chalets with our two children aged 5 and 2, everything was perfect we especially loved the fireplace ! We stayed at river lodge to go to ski resorts and it was a gorgous stay. Lovely cozy place with lovely owner. The distance to Ohakune city center is reasonable but you are not just in the city and can enjoy amazing scenery. Definitely recommend it.

We stayed in one of the cottages and felt like we were in our own private chalet. Gayle and Denton were very welcoming and helpful. The main lodge is very nice, and their breakfasts were superb. It's a few minutes out of town, but that's a good thing-it's an incredibly peaceful and serene location. My only complaint is that we... More

Gayle is the most welcoming and gracious host and I would definitely recommend River Lodge. We stayed for two nights in April, the room was superb. Giant comfy bed, sofa, fridge and a shared balcony with seating. The shared lounge area's are huge, plenty of space and Denton even lit the fire early especially for us as we came back... More

Thank you so much for your review. We really do believe that "the little things do matter" as our website promotes. That little bit extra costs very little other than time and we enjoy it so there is absolutely no effort at all. When we first started here one of the other lodges said to us "if you can't enjoy... It’s been said before about the River Lodge and it rings so true, home comforts, peace & quiet, unassuming luxuries, loads of privacy should you wish or convivial chat with your hosts and other guests. Paul Carberry of New Zealand in Depth suggested the River House, Ohakune as an ideal base to visit the sights of Waitomo and surrounding areas... More

We stayed at River Lodge for 3 nights, the accommodation was lovely and clean. Gail and Denton were very good hosts, very attentive but not intrusive. Gail's cooking was very good and we would not hesitate to recommend this delightful B&B.

Staying at this place is very nice experience. Outside of Ohakune, in the country side, along the banks of a small river. Providing an excellent breakfast and diner. Also very much appreciated is the use of the bath tube in the garden, really very much relaxing!

We spent 2 nights at The River Lodge, in the countryside outside Ohakune. We stayed in a spacious upstairs room in the lodge with a shared porch overlooking fields with snow-covered Mount Ruapehu in the background. The location was great for visiting Tongariro National Park. Two spacious, inviting and homey lounges provide a place to relax or chat with other... More

Highly recommend staying at 'The River Lodge' in Ohakune, the chalet has magnificent views of Mt Ruapehu, and after a hard days skiing, sitting in front of the fire place will recharge your batteries for the next day.
