Avila is meant to be one of the coldest towns in Spain. A warm welcome in a warm hotel is just what you need after a day on the road. Very comfortable traditional, quiet and spacious rooms. A warm reception from the staff and it's worth paying for the secure hotel parking. The hotel is all but next to the... More

This hotel is very well situated if you arrive by car. You don't have to drive into the walled part of the city. There is a car park nearby and it's just beyond the city wall, a short walk. It has old world charm. The rooms are clean, quiet and spacious. The oddest thing about the room was the pillow.... More

We stayed in the hotel for one night. The facilities are in excellent condition. The restaurant only serves a la carte. The location of the hotel is very convenient - just round the corner from the cathedral and the city wall. We travelled as a family.

A practical thing - write down how to find this hotel by car: It is in the lane immediately south of the cathedral, the first inside the city wall. Enter through the city gate south of the cathedral into the pedestrian zone (Calle Don Geronimo). Take the first right. Parking is through the big metal gate on your left after... More

This hotel is situated right inside the old city walls. Full of character and charm and a really warm welcome. The outdoor restaurant is excellent.Try the suckling pig. You'll need to book if eating Spanish time.Getting to it by car is a little bit tricky.Best to park by the cathedral,it's less than 30 seconds walk to the hotel where they will show... This needs very few words: This was the best steak I have ever eaten. But Trip Advisor says I need to write 200, OK: This was the best steak I have ever eaten. This was the best steak I have ever eaten. This was the best steak I have ever eaten. This was the best steak I have ever eaten.... More

Old-fashioned style Spanish hotel in the old city, within the ancient walls, up a cobbled alley close to the Cathedral. Some facilities a bit on the primitive side, but overall comfortable, convenient and full of character. Good value. Staff helpful, but only one with much English. Reasonable breakfast, delightful walled garden bar. Dinner well-recommended but pricey!

Las Cancelas is a very good choice for anyone who is looking for a reasonably priced hotel in the very heart of historic Avila. We spent 2 nights here in autumn of 2008. The hotel is in an old building on a narrow street. It's just a short walk in one direction to the cathedral. An even shorter walk in... More

I would warmly endorse the views of the two previous reviewers. I thoroughly enjoyed my one night stay at the Hosteria Las Cancelas in May and wished that I could have stayed longer, as there is so much of interest to see in Avila. The location, literally in the shadow of the mighty Catedral and the imposing walls, still miraculously... More

We stayed in this hotel in May 06 at the start of a cycling holiday. It was a lovely hotel in a very old building. The walls were fabulously thick and windows were high and narrow...it was a real piece of history. Having said that, all the facilities were spotlessly clean. The bathroom was fine, the beds were comfy. Avila's... More
