Where to start? I guess the rooms are a good place to begin. Although admittedly not the worst room I’ve ever stayed in, our room lacked any charm whatsoever. It smelled damp and had what resembled scratch marks all over the walls (from guests trying to escape, I would presume). Our ‘mountain view’ consisted largely of building rubble outside the... more

We didn't get off to a good start at the Royal view hotel. Yes our room was big, and yes we had a grand view - but this was of the Sapa Night Club and an outdoor geyser. After a shower - which was actually good - I wanted to slip into one of the complimentary robes but was put... more

Booked this hotel through Hotels-in-Vietnam.com as part of Sapa tour. We were picked up form Lao Cai train station and taken here with no problems All meals included but at our first breakfast (which doesn't include anything other than tea or coffee) our children were asked by one of the staff if they wanted to have hot chocolate. I gathered... more

My husband, teenage daughter and friends also with two teenagers arrived from Hanoi on the train looking forward to being met by our guide and taken to the Bamboo Hotel in a minibus. Instead we could find no one with our names on their card and ended up catching the public bus to the hotel, only to discover we had... more

The Royal view, for the price is pretty basic, the only thing it has going for it is the view. The meals are often included (breakfast, lunch and dinner) in the price but after a couple of meals you will want to eat elsewhere. The rooms are very musty and damp and our shower, well, it didn't work and we... more

My wife and I were on an organised Asian tour and arranged a few months prior to leaving Australia through the Australian travel agent for a brief side trip (2 nights + 2 nights on the train) to Sapa. The booking was confirmed for Friday March 21 to be met at the Hanoi airport with a transfer to the station... more

Sapa is more of a jumping point to do trekking, etc. than an actual place to stay. We stayed here one day through a travel agent (Topas Travel) who booked our trekking in the mountains. We first got to the Lao Cai station in the early morning and while we were disoriented (we did not book a hotel since we... more

It was cold when we stayed here (February) but apparently the week before it had been much colder. The hotel is on the side of a hill, so you actually go down several floors from the lobby to most of the rooms. The hotel was cold and much of the lower floors had a faint smell of a gents' urinal.... more

The general view of Sapa seems to be that if you want to see a lot of mountain mist then go there in winter. The Royal View Hotel whilst probably a very pleasant hotel in Spring, Summer and Autumn is not quite so pleasant in Winter. It may very well have a "Royal View" but not when its misty and... more

Our family of four stayed one night at the Royal View Hotel Sapa in January 2008. We had a suite on the top floor with a king size bed in one room and a sofa/day bed in the sitting room and had an extra bed brought in. Balcony off our room was huge and was shared with the other 2... more
