This place is unique. Set up as a joint venture between a visionary Danish couple and the local government, it consists of a series of rustic, straw roofed buildings ranged round the crown of a remote hillside close to Vietnam's highest mountains. Accommodation is in a series of white-painted, stone built bungalows each with its own balcony overlooking a stunning... More

Thank you for writing to TripAdvisor A short note about the ownership of Topas Ecolodge. In 2003 when the lodge was built it was done in a partnership between the danish company Topas and a local family in Sapa. Last year the ownership fell totally on danish hands. We still work close with the family, as they arrange a great... More

If you are after 5 star service or amenities this may possibly not be the place for you. If you are after amazing views, a quiet place away from the city, somewhere with lots of outdoor activities and are ok with the occasional bug in your room then this is 100% somewhere worth staying. I found the manager extremely nice... More

I really had no idea what to expect from an "Eco lodge", but was incredibly impressed with what I found. Spacious rooms with stunning views, away from the chaos of Sapa town. Delightful. To sit on the terrace with a cup of tea and just drink in the view. Heaven. Thoroughly recommend. Only thing I had issues with were the... More

Thank you for writing to TripAdvisor We all have a great deal to thank the people that put this place together on this hill top. We as managers have a daily pleasure running the place and being very fortunate with our incredible hard working staff. There is no immediate solution to cutting down the amount of bugs. We do not... We stayed one night at Topas Ecolodge in Sapa during July. Pros: - The rooms had amazing view, and the scenic drive through the mountains toward ecolodge was quite amazing. The view was arguably better those in Sapa. - The service was decent, however, most of them can't speak good English. Cons: - Activities/Tours offered by the Topas (office located... More

We booked only one night here.. and when we tried to extend we were unable due to the night trains being full! Absolutely amazing setting in the mountains of Sapa, run by some good Pommie lads. I strongly suggest staying at least two nights! Great food too.

Thank you for writing to TripAdvisor. I can not really understand your comment about Topas Ecolodge is run by "Pommie lads" As danish lodge managers - my wife and I take great care to make sure all our guests are taken care of. It's been about 6 months since I stayed here for 2 nights but it was one of my favourites. To get there we had a hellish over night train from Hanoi to Lao Cai which arrived about 4am. We were so tired we barely noticed the scenic drive through the mountains as the sun started to rise. By the time... More

We chose this hotel because of the superb location, and upon arrival this happened to be very true. What nice premises beautifully located. We stayed here 3 nights in a deluxe bungalow with a superb view and (nessecary) AC. We spent a great time amidst a breathtaking scenery. The service however was not up to standard. Taking into consideration the... More

Thank you for writing to TripAdvisor The deluxe bungalow (9) do not have AC. There is an additional cost for one of the 16 upgraded Executive bungalows with AC and minibar. This was our spoil to end our 18 days away from home and what a wonderful time we had. The scenery was ever changing - one minute you could see the mountains then it was shrouded in mist. Magical two nights at Topas Ecolodge. The views are outstanding. I haven't been anywhere more beautiful. I think we had a 'quarry view' that some below have complained about but it was honestly a tiny corner of a stunning landscape, changing constantly as the clouds rolled in and out. The deluxe bungalows are fabulously designed, comfortable and spacious but there... More
