I had heard a lot nice things about the Astor before I finally booked it for a weekend night stay. The booking website screwed up my reservation and booked my into the wrong building, so I ended up in the extremely TINY (motel-room-tiny) and creepy room in the old wing with a broken drape and an empty balcony overlooking the... My wife and I have stayed at the Astor several times over the past five years and really enjoy the hotel. I appreciate the historicity of the hotel. We have only stayed in the historic wing, so this review is limited to our stay in that part only. The Astor has a museum in the basement and it chronicles some... More

Staff at the Astor took service to a whole new level. They were amazing, attentive and always went an extra two miles for us. I have never been so impressed with customer service. The rooms were large, very comfortable with good sitting space and great lighting, however there was a certain lack of attention to detail from the housekeeping and... More

Stayed here on a work visit. The hotel is amazing, the other reviews indicate that. This hotel is in the financial district and there is very little to do in the area. There is a mall out the back door and 3 blocks down. The mall has a little grocery in the basement that sells great produce, snacks, wine, beer,... More

I spend my business life in hotels where the rooms are like boxes, and sometimes I could be anywhere in the world. On local recommendation we stayed in the Astor which is full of history and grace, where we were able to celebrate our Wedding anniversary. It was a great decision. The Victorian Lounge is charming, the room spacious, the... More

We only stayed for a night at this 5-star historical hotel, but enjoyed a cocktail at the O'Hara's pub before our wonderful dinner at the 1863 Bistro. After dinner, we took a stroll along the river before retiring to our old Victorian room for the night. In the morning, we visited the Astor Hotel museum to learn more about its... More

This was my first day hotel stay in Tianjin on a 10 day tour of Tianjin and Beijin areas , and needless to say, I loved the hotel and its architectural flavors. For those who love western history, especially the pre WWII era, will surely like this place. The furniture and interior are well designed, comfortable bed, great breakfast and... More

Stayed two nights at this historic hotel in center of Tianjing located along the river. This is a very nice upscale hotel. Large rooms and huge bathrooms with separate shower room, separate toilet, and a big bathtub with a built in television. The king size bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was included in my rate and it was a very... More

Visited 26 May 2015. Stayed suite 402 in heritage wing. The best part about the Astor is that it is still a grand old dame. It's fully refurbished but to its original style. Deep wood floors, slightly creaky but not annoying, genuine old dimensions to all the rooms but with enough mod cons to remind you this is a five... More

Overall, this is a great place to stay for what you pay. It is about a 30 minute stroll from the train station and is in a beautiful area. There are plenty of restaurants within 15-20 minutes' walk.
