We spent 4 memorable days with Harry & Brigid Dodge Aug 2-6. Kodiak Treks is not for everyone - as a lodge the accommodations and food are satisfactory but not a reason to make the long trip to Aleut Island to meet the Dodges and their Lab "Loyal" - but if you are seeking to explore the Kodiak wilderness in... Where do I begin to describe the amazing experience that Brigid and Harry provided? I wanted to find a remote area of Alaska where I was surrounded by beauty and could see some of Alaska's wildlife. Well I got that in abundance, but also was shown a way of life that respected and celebrated the natural world. The kindness and... More

We took this trip for our honeymoon, and it was truly the adventure of a lifetime! We probably saw around 35 bears (from varying distances) during our 4 night trip. Out of those, there were 9 bears we saw at "closer range"- close enough that with a zoom lens I could take beautiful pictures worthy of hanging on the wall.... More

Trekking with Harry and Brigid was a highlight of our trip to the US. Having not experienced any contact with bears except in a zoo in Australia, I was excited by the prospect of being in their habitat and having the opportunity to observe them at a relatively close distance. We arrived at the Lodge at Uyak Bay on Aleut... More

If you love eco-travel and minimalist accomodations, this is the place for you. If you expect fancy everything, it is not. Their island has no running water and they are very conservation minded. That said, they are EXCELLENT hosts in so many ways. We spent 2 of 3 days camping about 8 miles from their island, which is is Uyak... More

This is more of an experience, "things to do," rather than a place to stay, or "lodging." Take a look at the NYTimes article, "It's a Bear's World" for a description of what this is http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/15/travel/its-a-bears-world-in-kodiak-alaska.html?pagewanted=all We flew into Larsen Bay on a small plane and Harry and Brigid took us to their lodge, about an hour away by boat.... Aussie Eileen's Adventure with Kodiak Treks A float plane flew my husband, Keith, and I from the town of Kodiak to the other side of the island wilderness to Uyak Bay to stay at Harry's & Brigid's rustic lodgings. The scenery from the plane was beautiful and a wonderful start to the 3 days we were to spend with them... More

We have spent five unforgettable days with Brigid and Harry Dodge in August 2012. On the first two days Harry took us on a boat to observe the marine life: puffins, oystercatchers, Arctic terns, otters and seals are everywhere, and the only other people you see are occasional fishermen on the commercial boats. The main point, of course, is that... More

I am sorry it's taken this long to write this review. Note, our trip was August 2006, but Trip Advisor doesn't allow selecting a date going that that far. I think a review can still be helpful, since our memories of our stay are still very clear. We have traveled to many special places and I realize when people ask... More
