We were expecting the worst from this place after reading the reviews, however we were pleasantly suppressed to find it was clean and comfortable. Dale was defiantly an interesting character. As long as you take him with a pinch of salt he is actually nice and is genially concerned for his guests safety (even if he did sound like a... More

Not a good place. Was not clean and owner was negative and nasty. No common room or wifi. Not recommended except if desparate. We chose to go elsewhere. Also on top of hill with no public transportation.

Myself and my husband stayed here In May 2011 and as all the other reviews have stated, it is a bit old and Dale can be quite grumpy however if you take the time to chat with him you will find a very warm, and interesting man with plenty of tales to tell. This is a hostel not a B&B... More

I stayed here for a full week, and would definitely do so again. The hostel is actually run out of Dale's (the owner's) house. Dale himself was initially rather terrifying, but if you get the chance to really speak to him (I saw him twice the whole week) he's very nice with a lot of great stories and advice. That... More

Me and my husband stayed at the hostel for 2 nights and would never go there again. Dale, the owner, lives in the hostel and it seems as if he doesn't want anybody around him. We used the kitchen which he didn't like at all. He moved our stuff so that food disappeared. He talked to my husband as if... More

The place was very dirty, dark rooms and not really clean showers. The host does not give you the feeling that you're a paying customer. The next time we'll stay in another hostel which is available in Ketchikan. Kitchen and common room are shared with the host. Set up rules are always subject to change. And some rules are unwritten... More

Our host was over worked and in a terrible temper. The place was dirty. The beds were worn out and the sheets thin. At least the bedding was clean. Wonderful view and the bus stop was close. It was up a very steel hill and two flights of stairs.

It was hard to get to this place, sure, best thing about this town is that transportation is cheep. and the view is completely worth it. never seen a better view. there is a telescope for guest use as well. dale, the owner, has filled the house with wondrous trinkets from his world travels. from a collection of bottles, to... Our group of ten was doing a paddling trip out of Ketchikan and we were looking for ways to save money and settled on this hostel to keep the housing costs down before and after the trip. The pictures online looked okay and via email Dale, the owner, seemed ok to deal with (perhaps the sporadic typing in ALL CAPS... More
