there are two parts to Haines - one is the old Fort Seward and the other is the town of Haines. The Fort is a neat little historic area on a hill facing the water where the cruise ships come in once a week and where a fast passenger ferry docks. there are several white buildings around a grassy square... The staff is very friendly and wonderfully accommodating. The rooms - and the hotel itself - has a very cozy, vintage, small town feel. The Fort Seward location is ideal; it's within walking distance to everywhere you might want to go in Haines. No, these are not luxury accommodations, but that is not what we were expecting. In fact, the... More

since we were out of Wi-Fi range when we made last minute reservations, we had no idea what we were reserving by phone. Read the other reviews for the basics. we were put in a renovated former single officers housing that had been a part of the military post. Everything was vintage, which added to the rain and gloom of... More

It's no surprise that this hotel has divided reviewers' opinions. If you're looking for state of the art accommodation or all mod cons, then stay elsewhere. If, like us, you appreciate history and are happy to put up with a few quirks, then you'll be delighted. After a friendly greeting we were allocated room no 4 which was large, light,... More

This is not your normal run of the mill hotel. Built originally in the early 1900s, it shows it age reminds you regularly this is something different. The owner, Mr. Buscher is very helpful. His wife is one of the best chefs in Haines. The setting is an old military parade ground and the hotel was the commanding officer's headquarters.... More

We cannot say enough good things regarding our stay for 4 nights over the 4th of July. Absolutely excellent customer service... friendly and helpful. Room 5 had a great view, comfortable bed, clean and we felt at home. The restaurant was delicious... well prepared and fresh. Coffee in the lobby was so convenient. Wish we could have had a place... Not only was the hotel lovely but the people there, especially Alex, were so helpful. My husband was worried that the battery in our van was failing so Alex volunteered to check it for us. We had the wheelchair accessible room with its own entrance for two nights and it was huge and comfortable. The bathroom was set-up well for... More

Our room was incredibly clean and comfortable. The bed was firm, the hot water plentiful, and we had a charming fireplace (not workable, but certainly old!) From our room we had a view of the fiord and mountains, and the coffee provided in the reception in the morning was well-made, despite the remoteness of our location. Our room had a... More

Positive: Staff are polite. Good location. Rustic. Negative: The room that we stayed smells very bad. We were not able to identify what the smell is. The bathroom smells like sewer, probably because of the old plumbing system. On day two, we figured it out that the smell is coming from the mattress. We didn't dare to lift the sheet... More

They have very nice rooms and there is a restaurant in the Hotel that serves luxury food. In the restaurant they have very nice fish and a kids menu to. The beds offer you a good sleep and you can see from some rooms the shore and boats coming. The restaurant and the reception offer a good service.
