If you’re lucky enough to visit Alaska, I highly recommend visiting Haines. I visited on a SouthEast Alaska Trip with Off The Beaten Path and it was awesome. It’s definitely a small small town, but great to see for Bear Watching, River Rafting (as in flat river rafting) as well as just to experience a quaint small town in Alaska.... More

We have stayed in this hotel for one night. The room was very shabby and way overpriced. They have also charged us extra than we have booked the hotel for. Only after arguing for several minutes did unwilling lady reimbursed extra charges. I would not recommend this hotel. The service and the interior equals to motel class.

Best kept secret in North America. Great fishing, arts and music scene, spectacular scenery and a wonderful brewery. The Halsingland was great and gloomy--but perfect! I shall return. Walkable to the art museum, bookstore, brewery, shops, a cool playground for our kids--and great views from everywhere.

This is the second time I've stayed at this hotel. It is an older hotel originally part of the Fort Seward complex in Haines. If you are expecting modern accommodations this is not the place for you. The rooms are large but comfortable and some updates have been added. The rooms are clean and although there is no laundry available... More

there are two parts to Haines - one is the old Fort Seward and the other is the town of Haines. The Fort is a neat little historic area on a hill facing the water where the cruise ships come in once a week and where a fast passenger ferry docks. there are several white buildings around a grassy square... The staff is very friendly and wonderfully accommodating. The rooms - and the hotel itself - has a very cozy, vintage, small town feel. The Fort Seward location is ideal; it's within walking distance to everywhere you might want to go in Haines. No, these are not luxury accommodations, but that is not what we were expecting. In fact, the... More

since we were out of Wi-Fi range when we made last minute reservations, we had no idea what we were reserving by phone. Read the other reviews for the basics. we were put in a renovated former single officers housing that had been a part of the military post. Everything was vintage, which added to the rain and gloom of... More

It's no surprise that this hotel has divided reviewers' opinions. If you're looking for state of the art accommodation or all mod cons, then stay elsewhere. If, like us, you appreciate history and are happy to put up with a few quirks, then you'll be delighted. After a friendly greeting we were allocated room no 4 which was large, light,... More

This is not your normal run of the mill hotel. Built originally in the early 1900s, it shows it age reminds you regularly this is something different. The owner, Mr. Buscher is very helpful. His wife is one of the best chefs in Haines. The setting is an old military parade ground and the hotel was the commanding officer's headquarters.... More

We cannot say enough good things regarding our stay for 4 nights over the 4th of July. Absolutely excellent customer service... friendly and helpful. Room 5 had a great view, comfortable bed, clean and we felt at home. The restaurant was delicious... well prepared and fresh. Coffee in the lobby was so convenient. Wish we could have had a place...
