I didn't have huge expectations as it was really cheap, the cheapest accommodation on the island. However the backpackers international hostel didn't even manage to meet my somewhat low expectations. Maybe I was in the wrong room as others seemed to think the place was ok, but the general consensus when I was there was it was dirty. I was... More

Thank you for your comment, but find it highly unfair considering the booking made with us was for March 25th not February 25th, so yes, everyone was surprised when you arrived as it was a whole month early. Secondly, you had booked the wrong hostel as you got confused with the name. Your friends were staying at Rarotonga Backpackers and... More

Very chilled out hostel in walking distance to lovely beach. Stayed in twin room which was clean and a good size. Common areas and kitchen are conducive to socialising with other travellers. Hostel staff is very helpful and keen to make sure people staying have a good time.

Had a great stay at this hostel, really welcoming owners and met a great group of people. 200m away from the best sunsets across the Pacific and your own almost private beach. Would definatley recommend staying here, wifi available, showers, cooking facilites, bedrooms, common area, a hammock, fresh pawpaw and coconut. What else do you need? Thanks for everything and... We stayed here for 1 week, and several times I found myself wondering how this place got such good reviews. I have been travelling for more than a year and stayed in countless dirt-cheap hostels, so I am NOT a luxury traveller by any means. This place is the cheapest place on the island, has a good location close to... More

We provide a free airport pickup for all bookings arriving off international flights and do require they book in advance so we know when to pick them up. Unfortunately this was one of the odd early morning flights (Monday morning 6am and Saturday morning 5.30am) where it’s usually quite difficult to meet the arrival times as majority of our pickups... I spent 6 days in this place. All started when Tisa came to picked us (me and 3 other people) up at the airport, and it was great to start meeting people straight away in the van. Tisa is very funny and sociable and i think that helps guests to socialize as well. My matress wasn't the best, for for... More

Was there several times in the mid-late 90's and then again in 2010. I stayed there because I was solo and it was inexpensive and near the things I always go to. Although with the bus and Raro not being that big, one can really get anywhere on a bike or the bus. BUT, the owners were distinctly unfriendly. They... More

Yes it is new management and we have our set office times; to help everyone start their day in the morning 9am to 12noon, we usually like to stay until about 2pm, but only when we can, then we take a break for lunch. We open again in the evening making sure the guests are fine or if they need... More

Tisa picked us up at the airport. In the morning she showed us all the places around the island on the map. She also really recommended us to visit the traditional Te Maeva Nui dance competition - it was awesome. The best thing about this hostel is that you can meet a lot of people in the common "room". If... More

Great place love the friendly staff and environment. I would come stay here again because of the owner. She picked us from airport and took us to the grocery store so we could get breakfast. She showed us how to get the bus and things to do. The hostel is average but cheap. You get what you pay.

I stayed twice in the backpack, early August and Sptember 2012. I met Laureen, Paul and Tessa the managers, all of them are really great, friendly and helpful. We had some outstanding nights around the "smocker" table! I recommend this place for its backpacker spirit. Bring your earplug because of Roooosssteeeerrrr!!!

Thank you for recommending us, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. As for the roosters, they still own the island, but we've managed to catch one, so that's one less rooster to greet you in the morning. We are still looking into having free earplugs, just need to find someone to keep us in decent supply first. More
