May 2014 - This place has been neglected for several years, it appears, and time and the salt air has taken its toll. Also the sewer lines, water lines and electrical leads are surfacing as the fill material migrates down into the 'Makatea' (fossilized coral). We stayed for seven nights in one of the "spacious" units. It was quite small... More

We stayed two nights in this lovely resort. It is on the northeast coast of the island, quite close to the Ivirua village. The location is a bit remote but it gives the place a special feeling. The hosts were excellent, they spent all day and night there just to be there if we needed something. They were really friendly... More

I visited Mangaia Island in 2012 and spend few nights are this place. Well, the only positive thing is the owner (a sweedish guy), very kind and helpful. But the problem with this place is that there is only one customer going every 2 months or so (Mangaia is not a typical touristic place and for instance, during my week... More

Besides a hostel, Ara Moana, is pretty much your only game in town/on the island. If you're looking for a 5 star Aitutaki/Bora Bora like pristine lagoon bungalows then Mangaia is not your place! However, if you're looking for GENUINE Polynesian hospitality and warmth, this is an incredible experience. The owner, Jan, even sent over a bike on the airplane... More

I stay in this facility for quite some time, let me say that the friendliness of the host and his wife and the couple of workers (Mam Mas) are second to none. What you will find is that the people genuinely care about your experience and take great pride in being able to make you happy. The meals in the... More

This is what an island vacation is supposed to be! If you're not looking for an American-style hotel, but for the "real deal" experience, this is your place. Jan, our knowledgeable host, provided everything needed for a full experience. He knew the right guides, the right tours, the right places to visit. Dinners were accompanied by stories and vibrant conversation.... More

We have just returned from spending 5 days on the island of Mangaia and each one of us absolutely loved it! We had a diverse age group ranging from 19-mid 50's and we all had the same opinion... You have to visit Mangaia before you die! Our accommodation at Ara Moana Bungalows was comfortable and clean and really suited the... More
