My husband and I stayed at Bettle's lodge for 2 nights in April, and I have to say it was one of the best experiences of my life. The flight to Bettle's was run by a local charter company and the staff were friendly and helpful. The view on the flight was breathtaking and in around 60 mins we were... More

Gorgeous place. Great food! Basic accommodation, but it did have everything we needed. The communication in the lead up was ok. Internet is not great, so I understand it could take a while in between communications. We went there specifically to see the aurora and to take part in a photography course. The course was independant, but offerred through Bettles.... More

My 9-year-old son and I traveled to Bettles for Spring Break 2015. Our primary purpose for choosing Bettles was to see the aurora, and we were not disappointed! The aurora came out every night of our three nights there. One night in particular it was straight overhead, stretching from horizon to horizon, and dancing all over the sky, green, purple,... More

What an excellent three days we spent at this lovely outpost! We thought of this as a once-in-a-lifetime trip and now we want to go back. Bettles is usually within the strongest portion of the auroral activity oval. Weather there is more likely to be clear than in Fairbanks, so watching the aurora borealis was our prime reason for choosing... More

The Bettles Lodge sits 35 miles north of the Arctic Circle and is a good jumping off point for the Gates of the Arctic National Park (should you be considering a summer trip) The auroral oval usually runs right overhead. There are about 12 people who live in Bettles, so light pollution is not a problem. These are the perfect... More

My whole trip to Alaska centered around my desire to see the aurora. I took a commuter plane to Bettles and arrived at the remote lodge. There weren't many other people around, so I took a walk. I walked for miles and did not see another living human. That night, I stood outside alone, and finally, at 4:00am, the dancing... More

Based on the excellent reviews, we choose the Bettles Lodge for our family vacation/adventure in January 2015. We were, even already our first day there, delighted to learn that our stay was going to be better yet than we had been hoping for. Eric has the personality and determination to excel as a gracious and caring host. Lindsay has a... More

Being far away from civilization, Bettles lodge sits right beneath the aurora ring with no light pollution, great staff and amazing food. Half of the visitors are return visitors during my stay. Fairbanks is for average tourists, this place is reserved for the adventurous.

We live in Anchorage Alaska and decided we really wanted to experience the northern lights first hand so we found Bettles Lodge online and made a weekend getaway plan. Boy was that a good decision! Eric and the crew at the lodge were fantastic. Very welcoming and easy to settle in with. They took great care of us and made... More

Spent three amazing days at the lodge this January. From the welcoming to the departure, the hospitality was superb. Eric went out of his way to provide all sorts of activities from the wood fired dry sauna (needed with minus 40 temps) to use of skis and snow shoes. He even took us on a drive down their ice road,... More
