The hostel/ hotel whatever is a nice place but it is not worth 13 dollars a night. The food is more expensive than many places around and the portions are small. The staff is rude and some do not look or act professional at all. I got yelled at by one guy when I tried to plug my computer in... More

Here's the thing. San Jose has lots of places to choose from and this is just one of many. If you would like to socialize, meet backpackers, get your late night "chat" on, listen to music loudly in public places, smoke, drink, be young and have fun while staying for cheepish...then you will get your moneys worth. There is a... More

I wouldn't recommend Pangea to anyone. We didn't know it was recommended in Lonely Planet, but arriving in the evening we had no choice but to stay there. Our room was a whopping $32 US per night and it was just a room with a bed. No fan, no linen, a window to the aisle (from where the rooms are... More

This hostel has to be the worst hostel experience due to a culmination of a number of factors; - Overpriced: not only are dorm beds are a ridiculous price but they try and extract the maximum amount of money from you possible , for example... locker key $5 more, towel $1 more, key card $1 more, $5 to dry one... This hostel is so overpriced, 32$ for a small doubleroom with just a bed and nothing else. We did'nt get our own bathroom, no towels (1$ per towel) and no breakfast included. The rooms have thin walls and you hear all the noise at night and in the morning as well. They have have a nice roofdeck with a bar... More

We booked this place because of the price, rooftop bar and pool. The airport shuttle was three hours late. We called them several times during this three hours and were told if we took a taxi the hostel would still charge us for the shuttle and that we would get robbed by the taxi. When we got to the hostel... More

I stayed here because it had good ratings on Hostelworld.com and was disappointed. The information which they give you is usually wrong. They will tell you that things cost MUCH more than they actually do, in order to get you to stay at the hostel for food/drinks and also they will try to get you to book private shuttles. Overall,... Sleep? Forget about it. The staff seems rude and not enthused to assist you. There isn't anything to do within the area outside either. Some [-] was making turkey calls between midnight and 1am. I wanted to smash his face, but I've heard terrible things about jail in Costa Rica.

I was really optimistic about this hostel--the reviews make it sound great, despite the noise. But this was a terrrrrrrible hostel. Really just unforgivably bad. To start with, it is NOT centrally located in any way. It's in a slum, and NOT near any place that I'd be interested in going out to at night--and I'm a pretty adventurous girl.... More

Huge hostel with many room options- shared, private, presidential suite- pool, bar, restaurant, free internet with many computers, cheap, reliable shuttles to airport $10 shared, convenient area of San Jose. We stayed here on our last night in Costa Rica, and it was definitely a great decision. Clean rooms, friendly staff, good food, lots of backpackers to meet.
