They have great facilities. But don't utilise them, never saw cinema room being used, no big parties, kind of gutted, as saw photo's and it looked mad! Food was expensive, but good and tasty. Got bitten to death in rooms, but did everywhere, noisy if trying to go to sleep early. Big man behind bar upstairs was pervy or grumpy,... More

The Good: The hostel has a really cool set up. The art on the walls gives it a pretty cool vibe and the roof top terrace is really cool to have a beer on. I met some cool people there as well, definitely a solid backpacker base. It had really tight knit security too. The Bad: The staff had a... More

As a backpacker working through Costa Rica I needed to burn a night in San Jose. I found the atmosphere that everyone seems to be complaining about extremely conducive to meeting other travelers, which is particularly nice since San Jose is the transportation hub of the country and meeting the right person(s) can lead to a good travel companion and/or... Look everyone.. it's a hostel. And it's a party hostel. It's going to be loud and if you really want to sleep bring ear plugs. It has a nice restaurant and common area.. and a pretty great burger if you're looking for a break from rice and beans! The hostel is clean.. especially the shared bathrooms which is really great.... I stayed here as part of world challenge. The facilities were good with lots of showers and a great bar which did our large party good deals on food. It is a good stop gap for travelling to other parts of Costa Rica

The rooms are not cheap and either loud or dark and unwelcoming. The staff is not friendly at all and not very helpful. They won't let you bring your own drinks or food to the bar and although it is very nice, it is very expensive and the only nice common area of the hotel. The pool is basically useless... More

Hostel Pangea was wonderful, my friend and I stayed there for 2 days in separate dorms. The place is really clean, it's a good vibe, you meet a lot of back packers there. There's not much to do in San Jose but the market is great you can buy food or items you made need on your trip and there's... More

We had a double room, directly under the roof top bar and paid 35$ / night. The first night we couldnt sleep at all, because they played the music all night long and way too loud! The staff wasn't very helpull and annoyed by our questions. There is a kitchen, but only for the use of the staff! All in... More

There are a number of factors that contribute to this general negativity of this review. Aesthetically, the repurposed feel of the premises leads me to suspect that "Hostel Pangea" served as some kind of municipal prison/lock-up in the not too distant past. It's concrete and metal ambiance bludgeon the senses. DO NOT BELIEVE THE WEBSITE: You cannot walk around the... More
