We stayed here for two nights. We met many backpackers... Staff was there to answer and help with anything you have asked of him. The rooms were clean, walking distance to anything in the downtown area. I highly recommend this place...The best is the bar and the pool with his tropical garden in the night...Friendly and very cheap! ;-)

Basement smells musty. The rooms are even worse. My room and my friends room both had black bugs approx 1 cm long. Was able to move to a different room on a different floor, which is better, however staff was not very apologetic. They were accomodating but did not seem concerned.

Hello dear guest, We actually fumigated the hostel yesterday, as a result bugs were running around and dying, this is probably why you saw some... we are very sorry about what happened but we live in a tropical country and from time to time we have to fumigate. regards Vincent More

It is really a good place to stay for one or two nights. Private rooms are good, there is a small pool even and a cosy bar, and free fast WiFi. However we were not lucky. We stayed for one night to catch an early flight the next day, and we couldn't sleep at all because of a group of... More

Hello dear guest, Sorry about the noise that night, our receptionist Alexandra just started the job and could not handle the situation, you can be sure Costa Rica Backpackers is a quiet place now. Ps. We reduce the reggae night to friday and saturday! Regards Vincent More

I only stayed here one night, but it was the embodiment of a San Jose hostel. It had clean rooms, a clean and small pool, a decent kitchen, fast internet, a rowdy bar next door, and, of course, lots of raggedy tourists who desperately need to get out of San Jose. Costa Rica is too beautiful to stay in this... More

We stayed here only one night and had a private room. The room was clean and ok. There was not window but for one night it was fine. The public area is nice and big, there is a really nice swimming pool and garden. Also there is a bar/restaurant there so don't need to walk in San Jose at night... More

This hostel is pretty big, many rooms. Very spacious, as well. The location is not too great (not a nice barrio) but others things make up for it. Rooms are fine, clean, matrasses are fine, bathrooms as well, spacious. They have lockers but these are a bit rickety. There is a nice pool, wifi, computers, nice couches, tv, hammocks. And... More

I really enjoyed staying here. The rooms are simple but clean and they are constantly cleaning and picking up the bathrooms and community areas. Hot showers, laundry service, fast wifi and the staff is extremely helpful.. They even have a great travel/tour service on-site.. The community area around the pool is very nice and spacious with great pool, hammocks, tables,... More

Dont go here if you want to sleep. Either its the bar blasting reggae or its drunk people partying until 5 am. Its a big place but has very thin walls. Dirty kitchen where people steal your food. Must say the staff is very helpful and willing to go out of their way for you.

This place has a great little pool and lounge area, nice little kitchen or a restaurant if you don´t feel like cooking. It´s got a bit of a party vibe so if that´s what you´re looking for this is perfect. Located in a relatively quiet area of town, within walking distance to the center.
