Phenomenal experience - great place to stay! Clean, comfortable rooms, and incredible staff who were kind and considerate and helped us set up trips and arranged taxi service to the airport. Located around a 20-30 minute walk from downtown, with convenient bus service.

First of all, thank you very much for staying with us! We are all about our customers and the experience that we offer. The fact that you had a great time really means that we are heading on the right track! Our main goal is for travelers to really experience Costa Rica how it's supposed to: pura vida style! Look... The hostel is located in an upmarket area. It is surrounding by smart villas and fancy houses. The hostel is well worth its money. The staff, especially Andre is amazingly patient and helpful with the guests. I would definitely stay here again if I visited San Jose.

In Costa Rica for a 2-month internship, I stayed in Stolas only for one month, but if I had known about this option before, I would have chosen it from the beginning on. After having spent one month in a shared apartment with 4 Ticos, where none of them talked to each other and shared anything with the others, I... More

I stayed at Stolas for 4 months because I was doing an internship really close to the hostel. In my opinion, Stolas is the best option if you have to stay in Los Yoses, especially if you are doing an internship there. The place is really well located (conveniently next to the mall and the party area, but also close... More

Last April I stayed at this hostel and I had a bad experience. First, since it doesn't have any sign to identify it, it's not easy to find it. Second, the first night at the hostel, the mattress was wet. Apparently, it looked fine, but when I put some pressure on with my body, water sprang up getting wet the... More

Nestled in a neighbourhood with some of the coolest examples of 50s and 60s architecture, Stolas is more home than hostel. Unlike other hostels I have stayed at, Stolas makes its guests feel more like a family. Many folks who stay here use this place as a base to launch other trips, often returning just to hang out and hanging... More

Not only does Stolas hostel have a great location, but it also has an outstanding staff. Always there to attend you and make you feel at home, the staff have for sure proven to be the attraction, i mean, their welcome gift is a beer!!. The building itself makes any backpacker want to peak in, and the cleanliness of the... More

My friend Laura and myself needed a hostel to stay in close to Veritas Universidad. Stolas was a 5 minute walk away, we didn't call in advance and just hoped they would have beds available. Fortunately, they did but I wouldn't advise doing this in the future because I see them getting busier and busier. There was every accommodation of... More

I spend around 4 nights at Stolas and totally loved it. I felt at home from the first moment in their lovely decorated house...They have everything there (tv, play station, kitchen, cosy living room, nice dorm and rooms, clean,...) The guys who run it are the friendliest Ticos i've met so far...they help you out with planning your day trips,... More

It's hard to say, whether the experience is positive or negative. The hostel itself is very nice, clean, staff is helpful, breakfast delicious ect., but getting there is another story. If you look at the map and think "that's easy! I can walk there" - you should think again. Avenidas and calles in this part of the city swirl like... More
