The Hotel Milvia is located in a historical location and has the press clippings on the wall to prove it. You enter through a lovely meditation garden and into a lobby filled with treasures from the Host´s hotel management in Thailand. The rooms are comfortable and named after famous people. In addition to the meditation garden the Milvia is a... More

I saw the Hotel Milvia mentioned in the Rough Guide, and having checked the favourable reviews on Tripadvisor, booked it for our two nights stay in San Jose. It belongs to Steve, an Englishman, so I could rest my basic Spanish for a day or two! It's packed with contemporary art, and has a lovely small pond in the middle... More

This was a last minute decision and a very good choice! Conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood but easy to walk to shops and restaurants. Carlos was charming, helpful, and so friendly. The rooms were clean and comfortable, simple furnishings. Creative artwork all over the hotel and a great selection of books and games.

Hotel Milivia is a beautiful converted house in a good location in San Jose. We were welcomed warmly by Carlos, who is the type of person who can inspire you to do more and be better in life. His good nature and positive character seemed to permeate the hotel which only added to the appeal of the place. Breakfast was... More

We had a really great experience at this place: the hotel is in a safe neighbourhood close to the University, with spacious rooms and fun quirky decor. There's a nice roof terrace, a cute courtyard, free wifi and the staff (especially the owner, Steve) couldn't be more friendly. Peaceful and relaxed, pretty, and great value for money! The only reasons... More

This small hotel is actually listed as a museum/hotel in some websites and GPS navigator units. Located in a quiet neighborhood near San Pedro, it is only minutes away from downtown San Jose and from shopping, universities, museums and other places to visit in the city. Tucked away in a residential neighborhood, it is not totally quiet, as other reviewers... More

This place was very cute. It looks like a house being converted into a hotel so gives a feeling of being in a house. The service was very good. They helped us get to the down town, get to airport and when we had to leave on a tour to tortuguero they obliged to have us leave our baggage with... More

I hovered between a 3 and 4 star rating for this hotel, so other reviewers may disagree with me. Here are the highlights first: comfortable beds, good-sized rooms, very nice decor, several comfortable couches, patios and other seating areas for relaxing, and good prices. We also appreciated the emphasis on security, off-street parking for our car, and very pleasant and... More

I originally decided to stay at Hotel Milvia because it's only a block away from Universidad Latina, not realizing how lucky I was to find this gem of a hotel. The room was quite large with a private bathroom, amazingly quiet, and decorated with simple elegance. I enjoyed spending time on both the rooftop patio and in the lush and... More

This hotel is superb. Tucked away and very quiet. The owner could not be more charming and the walls are decorated with his wife's excellent art. The architecture of the building is quite breathtaking. If you are going to San Jose, stay here!
