Well... I just got back from San Jose, Costa Rica... I stayed at the Hotel Del Rey... I arrived Febuary 5th, 2015 and was told that there was no rooms available.. I was floored because I made call prior to arrival...A few friends had already arrived and had rooms so I waited in lobby for about and hour and saw... More

the rooms were kind of worn out and smelled like cholrine-gone-bad. Not sure if this is a good place for children. My teenage son was really happy about the other patrons and would disappear for an hour at a time after asking us for money. I'm not sure what was going on there but he was almost mad when we... Not a family place as it is simply a brothel and casino. There are lots of girls from Colombia and the Dominican Republic that have residence permits to live in Costa Rica based on being trafficked to Costa Rica via sham marriages to old Costa Rican men.

This hotel is a blast for the single male traveler. I have been to Del Rey a few times and will keep coming back. Clean, safe, friendly, and fair pricing. The food is decent and room service fast. Take time to get to know the bell men and housekeepers and your every need will be met promptly. (Tipping helps too!)

In searching the web, you will see a number of reviews for this hotel and what you will find there. I am sure upon first read of most of these sites, you think the people are exaggerating about what you find there. I thought the same. Well, what you read elsewhere is all true and then some. I was there... More

I have been to costa rica many times and had never stayed in a hotel in the downtown area, I felt that i made a good choice, room was small and directly behind the DelRey but the breakfast in the morning and the staff were very helpful to me I will stay here again hopefully in about 6- 8 months.

Probably one of the best places on earth for a single guy. I got in at noon on a Wednesday and took a cab directly to the Del Mar. I went to the front desk and asked for a room. It was $60 for a king size bed that came with a mini fridge and lock box. Having read previous... More

Its been several years since i've been here. It hasn't changed much. Still entertaining. Rooms could use some improvements. As could the food. But overall stay was ok. The staff was helpful and polite.

It's an OK place to stay but they triple billed my credit card 1 charge when I checked out and 2 more times a day later. I have not got the money back. I don't sujest staying there but if you must don't use a credit card for the room.
