We used Hotel Don Carlos as a stopping off point between flying in to Costa Rica and traveling around the country. We were able to walk into downtown from the Hotel very easily, and were happy (since we didn't really want to be wandering San Jose at night) that the restaurant was tasty and reasonable. The rooms were simple, but... More

Super value! Inexpensive for the quality. Very well maintained property. Comfortable air conditioned, clean, quiet room. Elegant restaurant (a bit pricey, but quite fancy). An easy 6-7 blocks to the downtown square with the National Theater and pedestrian mall, many restaurants, pharmacies, museums, etc. the best part was how professional, friendly, and helpful the staff were. We had booked a... More

I couldn't go to the hotel because my flight was deleted. My reservation was without free canellation so the hotel could charge me all the amount. I wrote an email explaining the issue with the flight and they didn't charge me anything. I'm frequent "hotel user" for work and this nice beaviour is not so usual. Thanks again Juan Carlos

Stayed here for two nights, staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast choice varied and also very tasty, great to try authentic Costa Rican food. Rooms were very spacious and well equipped. Couldn't of asked for a better place to relax after a long flight and also very easy to walk into San Jose. Definitely recommend.

It retains the Old World charm. It's a boutique hotel for sure, in a quiet side street, a block from the Piazza Espana. The rooms have walk-in showers, air conditioning (if needed), TV with a large selection of stations, and a safe. The service was genuinely friendly. The Hotel Restaurant was so good, I preferred eating there. Breakfast is included... More

Loved this quaint, homey hotel which seemed more like an apt because of all of the little nooks & crannies where you could play games, read books or just visit. It's located in the center of town just a few blocks away from the National Theater, museums & parks. The people at the hotel are just wonderful. They took special... More

This hotel is comfortable and clean. It has a nice restaurant and gift shop. The finishes are older, so if you are looking for luxury, this is not the place for you. It is appropriate for a short, passing-through trip. the restaurant has typical Costa Rican food. The staff is very nice and friendly. If I were looking for an... More

We booked a superior room for 1 night, and we arrived 8 AM in the morning from the airport. We checked in early and left our luggage at the front desk, and they were able to get a room ready for us by 10 am which happened to be wheelchair accessible. The staff was super friendly and super helpful, and... More

Stayed there 2 nights and loved it. Had an inner courtyard balcony room and requested for our second night at the end of our vacation and they hooked us up😘.would stay there again in a heartbeat. Would have given them a 5 but the neighborhood is a little run down. Not the hotel though, just beautiful architecture

I've stayed here several times and ALWAYS loved it. I am insulin dependent and they are really good about storing my insulin (it must stay cold) and getting it for me anytime day or night! Additionally I love the architecture, the statues, the art, the food, the rooms but MOST OF ALL the owners and staff who go out of their... More
