I had a one night stay for my wedding anniversary and it was simply amazing. We were received with a free cocktail beverage and the room was wonderful. I had ask to surprise my wife with a nice flower arragenment in the room and the kindly took care of all the details. Make sure you make reservations for dinner as... More

We stayed here on three separate occasions during a three week visit to the country. It has the reputation of being the best hotel in San Jose, and I get the feeling it has let things slip a little and needs to sharpen up. The Reception service can be slow at busy times. We had the same room on all... More

This is my third overnight stay at the hotel Grano de Oro (was supposed to be the 4th but for a missed connection). Great, luxurious place to relax at the beginning or end of a Costa Rican vacation. We had a lovely room with an outdoor sitting area and a little fountain, and the restaurant is outstanding, if expensive. Will... More

This was our 1st night in Costa Rica and after a long journey it was lovely to be welcomed with a fresh fruit cocktail. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was served in a wonderful courtyard and the choice of food was excellent. The rooms were clean and very quiet considering its close to the heart of the... More

After a week in the wild parts of Costa Rica, I spent a night in this fabulous old hotel. Built by a coffee baron in Victorian colonial style, it offers quiet old-fashioned luxury and a fabulous restaurant. Not a "Costa Rican" experience, but perfect relief before the flight home. Good location for walking and shopping.

We had a one night stay in San Jose and were very pleased we had chosen Grano de Oro. As others have said there are not many tourist attractions to see in San Jose and the hotel stood out as a solitary, beautiful, building in the surrounding area. We were greeted on arrival with a welcome drink by two lovely... More

This former mansion is a haven of elegance and quiet. Well located-a pleasant walk to the city's main sites - this hotel is the perfect perch for travelers of sophistication who want to immerse themselves in tico life. If possible, request a room in the old part of the hotel. We occupied a patio delux room with a small interior... More

What a lovely hotel, truly distinctive, being an old converted Victorian mansion. Privately owned with very attentive staff and some nice little touches that made a difference, like a coffee station in reception from very early on in case you have an early trip out and the B&W photos of old San Jose along the corridors - the perfect introduction... Fantastic hotel, Cleverly converted former large home which has been turned into a lovely hotel. We particularly loved the restaurant and bar area which is classically decorated and surrounds a delightful courtyard. As the climate is mild all the windows are left open giving a wonderful spacious and relaxed feel. We had both dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and... More

We are at the end of our amazing tour of Costa Rica! The country has just exceeded all expectations. We have loved it so very much. Our two night stay here feels ages ago, however this hotel was a great place to start! The welcome was lovely, the room stunning and the staff were all attentive, polite and smiling! Food... More
