We stayed twice at the Grano de Oro, once at the beginning and once at the end of our trip. It's really an exceptional place, about as far as you can get from the sterile corridors and wall-to-wall carpeting of your usual hotel. For the beginning of our trip we splurged on a room with an outdoor patio, but overall... More

First, when you arrive the bellman is waiting at the curb to carry your bags and assist you in anyway he can. Then at the reception desk you are handed a refreshing glass of (passion fruit?) juice while you fill out your minimal paperwork. We have stayed at Grano de Oro twice now. Both time were one night with flights... More

This was the final location I went with my wife on our honeymoon and it delivered the perfect ending to the trip. The hotel was beautiful with lots of plants growing throughout, and a wonderful breeze no matter where you walked. The rooms were unique and cozy and provided the perfect place to relax at the end of our trip.... More

We called in for breakfast after an early start on a day trip to San Jose. This is a charming and historic hotel, situated a short walk from the city centre and quietly located. The hotel is full of character with a central courtyard dining area. The meal we had for breakfast was very good indeed, although it did seem... More

As far as capital cities go, San Jose doesn't have a great deal going for it being somewhat shabby with lots of traffic, no exciting architecture ( although the theatre is worth visiting) and rather uninspiring shops and restaurants. Outstanding amidst all this though is the rather splendid Grano de Oro Hotel which offers an oasis of peace and quiet... More

We stayed 1 night at Hotel Grano de Oro and is was incredible. We were greeted with a refreshing glass of freshly squeezed juice, which was one of many details that defined our experience. The room itself was luxurious, with a well appointed bath. We took a walk to the local park from the hotel before going out to dinner.... More

We recently spent some time at Grano de Oro thanks to grandma visiting and can not recommend it more. The setting is beautiful, its a oasis of tranquillity in the middle of San Jose that offers impeccable service, delicious food and excellent cocktails (especially if they are enjoyed in the rooftop jacuzzi under a full moon!). We stayed in the... More

We were there about 16 hours and managed to have a bill of $700! The room was nice enough - high ceilings - when we arrived the windows were open, overlooking a lovely courtyard and mango trees. Unfortunately, the open window let in a lot of mosquitoes, which feasted on me throughout the night. The restaurant was lovely. I had... More

This hotel is a real oasis in the middle of a not particularly inspiring City! It is an old conical style building with lots of extremely attractive touches. The open air courtyard restaurant is one of the prettiest I've eaten at, definitely worth trying if you're staying or even if your not. There are pretty wrought iron walkways, lush foliage... More

We stayed at Grano de Oro before continuing our Costa Rica trip. Hotel transfers were seamless. $35 from the airport to hotel and $25 back. The staff was nice and helpful and rooms were very clean. We went into San Jose during the day for the museums and it's a 20-30 min walk. San Jose isn't that nice so that... More
