We stayed at the Grano d'oro in January 2016 and were not disappointed. Initial impressions were good with friendly staff and a nice lobby. The room was very clean and tastefully furnished with a lovely bathroom, with bath. The room had coffee making facilities, wifi and a hairdryer. Breakfast was served in the courtyard and is a la carte rather... More

I rarely rate restaurants. But how can such estimable cuisine in a culinary backwater be undercut to the bone? Arrogant, indifferent service. It was THAT bad. Sat night, best food in the city, reservation. No maitre d, wine came before drinks, no suggestions re: menu other than "what do you want to eat?", cutlery plopped down haphazardly, no bread offered... More

I tried to book this 40 room boutique hotel for six nights during a ten day visit to Costa Rica. We were scheduled to be on a WindStar Pride cruise for ten nights. The ship ran aground in Panama in December and the cruise line cancelled the next few departures. We had non-refundable air that we booked independently so we... More

When we arrived at this hotel in our transfer car it looked unimpressive from the outside, also being in an area of non descript buildings didn't help. However as soon as we got out of the car we were greeted by the doorman who took us to reception through a very modern door access system. We booked a deluxe room... More

Lovely boutique hotel, interesting route to room! Good clean room with outside enclosed patio space. The building is lovely especially the dining courtyard and try and see the private dining rooms on the first floor - very nice. We had a superb meal in the restaurant with very attentive staff. Our only issue was the practice of pricing in Colones... More

The Hotel Grano de Oro is all style and substance. We stayed here over New Year and had a luxurious pause before a busy tour around Costa Rica. The staff are friendly, food is exceptional, wifi is great and landscaping just gorgeous. It is in a pretty rundown neighbourhood, but we felt safe walking around and it is convenient to... More

This hotel was great!! We loved the look of the hotel and the service provided. We had our New Years Eve dinner there and it was AMAZING!!! I would love to go back and eat/drink there. The room was cute but a little small...I would still go back in a heartbeat.

This was the first place we visited on our Honeymoon. The hotel was a great starting point for our adventure in Costa Rica. The room was clean and quaint. The staff was very friendly. The service and food at the restaurant were delightful! Definitely a highlight of our time in San Jose. Be sure to take a dip in the... More

We have now stayed at Hotel Grano de Oro in San Jose 10 times. It is a fully renovated rambling Victorian house, beautifully and tastefully decorated in period but with a modern feel. The rooms are all built around inner courtyards and are very comfortable. The staff are efficient, helpful and friendly. The restaurant is superb. If you're in San... More

I run a bed and breakfast in portland, oregon and i was totally impressed with this gorgeous property. The building looks like a stately old victorian but is actually a relatively new building. The public rooms are beautiful, the guest rooms have comfortable beds and every amenity you would want. I highly recommend this place.
