We stayed here just one night prior to a yoga retreat. Hotel is a quick hop from the airport - I used their shuttle service in for $30. It was a little late, but no big deal. Hotel itself is actually a bit of a compound - an onsite bar, restaurant, wine shop, hair salon, leather shoe/purse store, coffee bar... More

We stayed here for 3 nights upon our arrival to San Jose from the states. We were looking for something centrally located to acclimate at the start of our 3 week trip to Costa Rica. The hotel is in a great location, right in the city center and on the Avenida Centrale, which is the main pedestrian walkway full of... More

I arrived with a Road Scholar tour and stayed at this hotel for one night. It is centrally located and is walking distance to most places in the center of the city. The restaurant is good for breakfast, but was very good for the lunch where we had fish. The rooms were clean and good to stay in. The front... More

This hotel is in a great location on a pedestrian street in the heart of San Jose near many of the major sites. My family of 6 booked the family suite, which has two bedrooms (one with a king bed, one with two double beds), two bathrooms, and one connecting living room. The suite also had an enclosed balcony running... More

We had stayed one night for our flight back to California. The hotel is located in the center of San Jose, on Central Avenue which is a pedestrian one. If you've never been to San Jose and care for a quick browsing of the city center (like us), then this is a good choice. Another nice Hotel Presidente is next... More

Enjoyed my second trip to the Balmoral The room quality varies, so ask for the third floor, which is superior to the fourth. The location couldn't be better. Excellent restaurant which rivals many other restaurants in the city. The exterior of the hotel needs a major facelift, but the interiors are good.

Right on the main pedestrian street and near some of the major sites. Easy walk to some great restaurants. Breakfast buffet good. Room was small and stuffy. No window to get some natural light. Beds and pillows hard. Couldn't adjust the heat to cool down room. Cleaners did not show up until after 3pm. Didn't get a good night's sleep.

We stayed at Hotel Balmoral in the beginning and the end of our Costa Rica voyage. We revisited our regular suite on the fifth floor, and were not disappointed. I noticed the two television screens that looked much larger and had a better audio and video quality. The room safe has been redesigned and was now positioned at eye level... More

Only good things to say about this hotel! We stayed there three nights while visiting San Jose and it is a perfect location if you wanna get to the main sites by foot. Rooms are clean and very comfortable!

This is a great place to stay in San Jose. It has so much character and doesn't resemble anything of a chain hotel, yet is has all of the modern amenities. The location is perfect, right in the center of San Jose with all of the shops and museums. Whether you are staying for a week or just one night... More
