We arrived in San Jose two days before joining a group tour. Hotel Balmoral was a perfect location to walk to many interesting spots. We walked to Mercado central one day and had lunch there. We attended a piano concert by child prodigy Cynthia Soto at the nearby Teatro Nacional. We talked to a few people on the streets and... More

We stayed two nights in this centrally located hotel. The staff was great, the breakfast buffet was wonderful with a great variety. We took a side trip that required us to leave our luggage at the Balmoral for two nights. We then returned for one night and were treated to a room upgrade. The staff was very helpful, spoke great... Nice, very clean. Beds very comfortable. Location is in inner city pretty convenient to all. Good restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Google it to check it out. Pretty interior atrium restaurant. Dinner was a little rough. Definitely NOT Cuban sandwich! Wifi was free an excellent.

We are just back from two weeks in Costa Rica and we had a wonderful time at some truly wonderful locations. I'm sorry to say that this was where we spent our last night before we caught our flight back north, because unfortunately, it was quite a disappointing experience. We are used to being in upscale spots and although we... More

If you have to go into the city of San Jose, Costa Rica, the place to stay is Hotel Balmoral. It has friendly staff and sufficient security. A buffet breakfast was included with the room. The meal consisted of numerous fresh fruits and other breakfast items. These very good accommodations were convenient to both the Gold Museum and the National... More

Arriving late at night by taxi and finding everything downtown gated and shuttered I was concerned for what I was about to experience. Inside, the Balmoral is a recently remodeled, modern hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful (adjectives that can be used for Costa Ricans in general). Our room faced the street. The original balcony was enclosed in the... More

We were dropped off at the Balmoral Hotel by our transport and the staff were very welcoming and helpful in helping us get settled in our room (we had some door and safety deposit box issues that had to be tended to). The staff at the Balmoral were helpful in making restaurant recommendations and we enjoyed our short time there.... More

Nice hotel and restaurant! Good location and will arrange transport to the airport for $30. Also was thankful for the complimentary room upgrade! Front desk staff spoke English and helpful in making sure our transportation was on time. Also check out the market near the national museum, great prices on tourist items including shirts, towels, etc. Beds were a little... More

We stayed here just one night prior to a yoga retreat. Hotel is a quick hop from the airport - I used their shuttle service in for $30. It was a little late, but no big deal. Hotel itself is actually a bit of a compound - an onsite bar, restaurant, wine shop, hair salon, leather shoe/purse store, coffee bar... More

We stayed here for 3 nights upon our arrival to San Jose from the states. We were looking for something centrally located to acclimate at the start of our 3 week trip to Costa Rica. The hotel is in a great location, right in the city center and on the Avenida Centrale, which is the main pedestrian walkway full of... More
