The hotel manager charges $36 an occurrence as an extra fee. Why are they so selective? It is not worth the extra money. There are other options lodging options with taxi fares as affordable as they are.

The hotel was excellent. Upon our arrival they gave us an upgrade. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the pedestrian street below. The room was probably the nicest of the trip, very modern and clean. The only downside was the Lady peddling on the corner that wailed all day long on the corner outside. My lack of Spanish... More

I stayed at this hotel for five nights. The room was on the smaller side, but since I was traveling alone, it was spacious enough for my needs. The furniture and décor were all outdated but clean and serviceable. The bathroom and shower was very small and cramped. The bed was comfortable. The room was very clean and the maids... More

Driving through the older, not so appealing & almost shady part of San Jose, I was starting to regret booking my stay at the Balmoral. I felt scared to stay in this area because it was congested with so many people and traffic. I chose this hotel originally solely on price and location near the SJO airport because our flight... This part of San Jose felt dirty. The hotel is old, but they have updated all of the common areas (lobby and plaza level with shops). Rooms were very clean, but old. Opened closet door and they smelled horrible. Not sure how to avoid in the damp weather? Old tubs, sinks, and faucets, but they get the job done. Glass... More

I'm a woman and was traveling alone. I had to be in San Jose for a couple of days and I wanted a hotel that was safe and close to restaurants, stores, pharmacies and local sites. Situated right on the Avenida Central, the pedestrian walkway, the location of Hotel Balmoral couldn't be more perfect. The hotel building architectural is a... More

3 of my friends and I stayed here for 2 nights while in SJ. We came to the city unexpectedly so we didn't get to research hotels. We asked our driver for good hotels and he recommended the Balmoral as the best. We rented 2 rooms which were next to each other. The room itself was average. Clean but dull.... More

I stayed at the Balmoral for two weeks. The location is convenient to the walking zone and there are plenty of taxis and buses if you need them. The breakfast was included and a chef prepares the eggs and pancakes to order. Locals can also eat breakfast there for 4,000 Colones. The staff are very helpful for getting directions and... More
