My stay at Hotel Balmoral was completely unacceptable. Ther service was poor and the rooms were shabby. Most importantly I was charged $100 from my account for no reason at all. I had already paid for the room and did not incur any expenses. I emailed them to ask why i had been charged without my knowledge and I have... more

I stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel is a bit dated, the photos on their site are misrepresentative of the actual hotel. The general staff attitude varied. The best thing about this hotel is the location but the room smelled like smoke and the walls are really thin, so you can hear heavy construction in the day and your... more

Hotel Balmoral is centrally located and within walking distance of many restaurants, shopping, the National Theater, the Gold Museum, central market, banks, the artisans market, and more. The staff are all very friendly and will go out of their way to make their guests happy. The restaurant, El Patio, is fantastic with lush live plants everywhere, delicious food, and excellent... more

The lobby area of the hotel is nice, but the rooms were dated and OK clean. The air conditioning barely worked, carpet floors (not a good thing, prefer tiles) bathroom once again just OK. The nice thing about the hotel is the free WI-FI. It worked from our room. The central location is a nice feature, right on a pedestrian... more

I had stayed at the Balmoral 6 or 7 years ago for one night and decided to book a couple of nights there on my last trip to Costa Rica. I have to admit that the location of the hotel is great (right in the center of town, close to restaurants, shops and most businesses). However, the experience was terrible.... more

The room we stayed in was very old and musty. The place had a horrible smell and the price was far too much for the quality of the stay. I wouldn't recommend this place especially since the Hotel Presidente is right across the street. The few extra $$ is definitely worth it. more

walked into very nice lobby and pleasant staff and, because we were tired and hungry, booked a room for $85 USD w/o seeing room 1st. BIG mistake. Room was at end of hall with open door to fire escape outside room, sheets did not fit bed and were like sandpaper, TV audio had static, water quit in middle of wife's... more

Great location on the Central Avenue (pedestrian street) in downtown San Jose. Excellent breakfast included. Public areas are reasonably nice. But ... the room, albeit more spacious than some and surprisingly, included a private, glassed balcony; was noticeably musty and the furniture was quite worn (I was upgraded to a junior suite upon arrival since the room with a balcony... more

I stayed at the Balmoral after meeting some people in Jaco who said it was a great hotel. I had read the reviews about it and originally decided against it and booked at La Amistad for my return trip back to San Jose. But after hearing rave reviews about it in Jaco I booked it online two days prior to... more

Our family group of 11 persons(age range 13-53) stayed at this hotel for a week. The place is very clean and the staff friendly. The rooms are spacious (at least the ones we got) with clean bathrooms and clean and fresh towels. The beds and pillows are comfortable. Our room faced other hotel balconies but we did'nt mind at all since we... more
