We stayed here 2 nights in July 2015 with 2 kids, 7&10. They LOVED the pool! We enjoyed the hot tub with a beer and the kids were going down the slide. Breakfast is included and was OK/not great. We booked our room through Expedia I believe, at a very good rate. It said 'limited view' - and indeed our... More

My girlfriend and I stayed at Santo Tomas. It was an EXCELLENT experience all around. The staff were professional, friendly and super helpful! We were lucky enough to meet the owner Thomas. What a fantastic guy!! We have been backpacking Central America for three weeks now and by far, Thomas was the most genuinely friendly, and helpful person we dealt... More

After a 10 day trek through Costa Rica, my family (4 kids, wife and mother in law) stayed here in order to make it to the airport on time. Thomas, the owner is a trip - great guy with great stories - and you can tell he loves his creation. Reasonable rates, great service in a funky cool part of... More

Howdy Matt D & Family, Always a pleasure to see the children enjoying the pool, jacuzzi and water slide. I'll bet that created some wonderful Costa Rica travel memories! That is what travel is all about, I have fond memories of the outer banks of North Carolina , a place called Salter Path, from when I was 5 years old.... More

We had a great stay at Santo Tomas. Thomas, the owner, was so friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and bilingual, as were each of the front desk staff. Pool, jacuzzi, breakfast, guidance and trip-planning expertise. And we discovered that San Jose is actually a very cool city--stay for a day or two and explore the museums and cafés of Barrio Amon ,... More

Hi Caryn, Loved it that you both knew how to be an urban visitor. There are many things to see and do in San Jose , just as in any city , you gotta go do it !! A great way to do it is three days , doing a couple of day tours and seeing the city in between... More

I recently stayed 4 days at the hotel with a friend, and my 1 year old son. Upon arrival, we were immediately upgraded to a room that would better accommodate my son. The staff gave dining recommendations that were exactly what we were looking for. The place was small and quaint. We LOVED it!!!

Old world colonial design. Great Service, Great Rooms, Very personal with the owner hanging out in the bar after supper and at breakfast. I slept in the old dining room. Two huge queen beds, nice TV. Massive bathroom that was completely tiled and the shower was just in the corner, no stall, just there. Would be great for a limited... More

Hola Wfeandsig, Yep that was the original dining room, founding family had 10 children toss in all the additional family, visitors, servants and you can image what it was like. The new annex upstairs has outstanding rooms as well too bad you did not poke around, there are nooks and cranny's every where along with informative and lovely art works.... More

Arriving at Hotel Santo Tomas after a long trip to San Jose from Alaska was truly a wonderful relief. At checkin, everything was in order: the owner introduced himself, showed us to our room, gave us a recommendation for lunch, and even confirmed our pick up time and place for the next day's tour. The hotel itself is a stunning... More

I'd say this place is Good, but not Very Good. They gain a star for the awesome hot tub/slide. Seriously. It's awesome. They lose a star for the bad breakfast. Bed was so comfortable, and the shower was nice and warm. Not super clean but not gross either. Wifi barely works. I personally loved the area and wish we had... More

Hi Jmercednut, Yep as you said it ( that hot tub! ) now let me see: you stayed in an economy room if booked on the hotels web site is $57.00 plus tax. There is no other San Jose hotel with a water slide and jacuzzi: which by the way has a $5000.00 pool heater just for the hot tub... More

We stayed at Santo Tomas for our first night in Costa Rica. The place is very clean and the location is great. But what made this place special was Tomas, the owner, who was a great help with planning the rest of our trip. Thanks for the list with the different sorts of coffee we should try!

Hola Domalking, Love that Costa Rica coffee ! Just ask and I'll give my special selections. Yes, our location is really good we are located on Avenue 7 right at the top of the hill before it goes steeply down to Avenue 11. This is really important for our older clients or just for any one that does not want... More

We spent three nights here upon first arriving in Costa Rica. Hotel Santo Tomas is in a great location downtown, near the Central Market and the Metropolitan Cathedral. It was very easy for us to walk around downtown and see all the sights and shops, then go back to our comfy room at Hotel Santo Tomas. All the people working... More

Hi TyMom, Very nice review Thank You ! Many clients spend several nights upon arrival and then one at the end of the vacation here.
