This is exactly what I expected for $60 a night (the hotel publishes a higher rate which it absolutely doesn't deserve). Basic, fairly old and worn place... a little noisy... but nice staff. The renovations continue... and the restaurant-- which I was looking forward to eating in-- was closed and not following the hours posted on the hotel's website. So,... more

This hotel has potential. The building itself is lovely. BUT... This hotel is not worth the money. It was more expensive than the Gran Hotel Costa Rica, which both my friend and I liked a lot more. The room always felt humid and smelled musty. (no a/c, only a ceiling fan.) The decor is outdated. (but the floors are lovely.)... more

We stayed at Hotel Santo Tomas for one night upon arriving in San Jose. Our plans changed and we ended up coming back twice. The owner and the staff were great - even to the point of saying we should call if we needed anything for the rest of our trip. The building is in great shape and the rooms... more

After staying one night at the Gran Hotel - which was OK but a little disappointing - we moved on to the Santo Tomas for our last two nights in Costa Rica. The staff members were charming and helpful, the room was very comfortable, and the bed had particularly good sheets. The restaurant had a varied menu, and the food... more

This hotel was clean, but for the money not a deal. We passed prostitues at a nearby corner on our way (with my two daughters) to the hotel. You could every word the person in the next room was saying. Breakfast included meant cut up fruit and coffee! more

My first trip to Costa Rica was in January. I stayed at 3 other hotels before I moved to Hotel Santo Tomas where I finally felt comfortable and safe. When I returned for five days in February, I would not have considered staying anywhere else. The hotel is very convenienty located near all of the downtown sites. You can walk... more

I stayed ten nights in July 2008 and found the hotel O.K. for the price. The hotel is in the city of San José, close to the center. The neighborhood is O.K. during the day, but at night you have to be careful, as you would be anywhere in the city. My room that was on the second floor, was... more

I always look for friendly capable staff, cleanliness, security, pool, and a good restaurant. The ST has all and is why I always return. I consider it home while in CR. Also there is a Radio Shack. pharmacy, bank, supermarket, etc within 3 or 4 blocks which is convenient. Highly recommended for business, tours, or vacation. more

I stayed there in Rm#9 for 7 nights from 6/25-7/03. My tico friend and I enjoyed staying near the downtown attractions like the Del Rey and shops. Safe during the day and until 8PM, then being street-smart does come in handy. I am from New Orleans and I feel that my city is much more dangerous than the worst I... more

I stayed at the hotel for the July 4th weekend and I was fine. I did not have great expectation because I know what I paid. The room was clean and spacious. I stayed in room #10 and did not see any insects. The neighbohood is not the greatest but I was always in my room from 9:00 pm to... more
