I decided to take a chance for a 1 night with Hotel Europa. The hotel is a central part of the city, but seedier than most would probably like. Its just a few blocks but its a difference. The hotel is really showing its age. The room, with old tv, soiled old carpets, bed coverings very old, and everything just... More

Unfortunately still here because my whole stay has been paid for. I have two examples translated from spanish: 1st example, outside the door, asking staff for help: "Please help me with my bags" and they literally just stare and wait for me to push the 25kilo huge suitcase 1 inch through the door while I carry a huge hand bag... According to the jingle ""Oh never oh never oh never again -if I live to be a hundred or a hundred and ten!!!"""" This hotel is simply riddled with problems. I have written numerous of these reviews and always found something positive to say.. Unfortunately this hotel has beaten me-do not say you have not been warned. Primarily I believe... More

Stayed four nights here in the September low season on a rate booked through Orbitz (with a 20%-off code to sweeten the deal) that didn't include breakfast. Everything went fine. The place is a bit tired in wearing down the furnishings or some of the linens (like the bedspread) more than you typically see in the U.S., but this isn't... More

The worse part about a stay here is the staff and the service levels. I have rarely experienced a hotel that cares so little about guests. From arrival to departure it was simply miserable. The staff has absolutely no notion of customer care on any level. Breakfast is horrible. Awful food and no service, not even a glance from the... More

Downtown San Jose was the first place in my entire 12 days in Central America that seemed very sketchy. I made the mistake of arriving on a Sunday when everything was closed and the druggies were out, and also walked from the Coca-Cola bus stand to the hotel, which should've ideally been avoided. The approach to the hotel is very... More

Stayed two nights. The room was large, the bathroom functional and the price is great. Perfect stay downtown San Jose for some nights. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is old and it shows, needs some renovation and upgrading but one can not ask more for the very economical price.

Hotel was centrally located. The room was worn down, mulitple updates necessary, the only thing that worked perfectly was the air conditioning. It served its purpose for 2 nights, since it was just for sleeping. Ruben Murillo, the doorman was very informative and helpful throught the stay. He actually made the hotel more welcoming. Recommend staying there for maybe a... More

Booked a king room for 4 nights at Hotel Europa for a March visit to Costa Rica. Online booking was easy and I received several e-mail confirmations before my stay. Check-in was a little slow but overall service was adequate. The hotel is old and prides itself as being the oldest hotel in the city. It is definitely in need... More
