I stayed at the Hemingway Inn for two weeks in March 2014. I know a lot of hotels in San Jose, but at this moment the H.I. is probably the best bargain you can get. It is centrally located, has nice rooms, a nice bar and the staff is really special. Hard to find such nice people in San Jose.... More

Hemmingway Inn was basic but comfortable. The bed was a bit worn out, but the rooms were clean and there was plenty of hot water. I think some rooms near the reception could be a bit noisy. Location was good and you could easily walk into the main streets. There are eating places close by. Breakfast was available for $5.... More

I love this hotel! Its in a great location, steps from the downtown shops and restaurants and a very safe place to stay. Its super clean and has amazing staff. The team really goes the extra mile: Tony at the front desk went out of his way to find us an affordable cab to take us to an airport hotel... More

Stayed twice in the Hemingway Inn in downtown San Jose. Found it to be a clean, inexpensive place situated only four blocks from the center of the commercial district, an easy walk. Very helpful staff. WiFi had some problems off and on, but mostly worked well. Breakfast was decent if not inspired. Both rooms we had were comfortable with private... More

I liked the place, it is funky but also charming. Luckily they were not full when I was there so I got to see 4 rooms before choosing one, which was upstairs and inside with a window to the corridor. Some of the rooms are right on the street and kind of loud, especially if you are across the street... More

We had a brief stay at this place when we first arrived in Costa Rica. It's a quirky little place that is by no means luxurious but not totally offensive either. Has quite a nice feel to it overall and very friendly staff, but the pillows definitely need replacing and the rooms smell musty. Nice hot water in the showers... More

I've been staying here for years. I ussually stay for only a night or two before venturing off to the Pacific side of CR. I recommend rooms 2,3,& 5. The place is clean and comfortable. The staff does a great job making you feel welcome. The owner Calvin is usually at the hotel. Good downtown location near many of the... More

My husband & I started our Costa Rica vacation here, staying 2 nights in late February 2014. We took a cab from the airport - turns out we could have taken the shuttle arranged by the Hemingway for about the same price, but it was not a problem. The staff at this B&B is very friendly, for the most part,... More

The hotel has probably seen better times, it is not in the best shape. There was smell in the bathroom, the common area (inner garden) looked like someone was not showing up for work for a while. The breakfast was good, but very slow. The owner is an amiable American guy, but it does not seem he spends a lot... More

We enjoyed staying at this place. Our room was clean, large and had hot water too. There was a bit of noise from the street before 8pm but it was quiet when we wanted to rest. The staff were good and the breakfast in the courtyard was goo. Enjoyed the painting of the walls and the history of the place... More
